Ford Connect part wrap
Posted by Richard Urquhart on 21 January 2010 at 19:10Hi all not posted much as I have been really busy, fitted in a slot today to sort this out, fitting on my own which was ok. I did the side in one piece as I didn’t want a join over the top of the door this would have been the easy option however the one piece worked a treat, not done to much like this but didn’t have any real problems, well I did cheat a little and used HX20000 bubble free, this was so nice to use now its thicker, this is the new batch, time will tell I guess. I was please with the way it went on and the customer MY MATE who owns my workshop is very happy which is the main thing.

Hi Rich
looks good, nice to see the process step by stepKev
-
Looks good Rich – well done. How long did that take you?
-
Thanks
Phill it took around 6-7 hours the van had been steamed off the night before and I just had to clean with alcohol, think next time I could save a little time but I was happy to get it done in that time, although its hard work, would not want to do one aday !!! Rich -
Rich
fine job mate, the design works well,
Proving full wraps are not always necessary. Thanks for sharing

great design Rich , looks really clean & to the point. Thanks for taking the time to post so many pics

Tichy bit of crit Rich, and it may be down to the photos.
the white outline round the blue words needs to be in the same proportion, throughout, The words on the silver maybe would have looked better with a smaller outline?Peter

Rich,
It looks a first class application job…..nice one
Would it have been much more work or cost to do a full wrap?………It might just be me but I’m not too keen on the colour combination…..Silver & Blue…..I think it would have had more impact withe the central silver band in white maybe??
Still looks a great job though
-
Nice application, job looks good. Can’t say I love the blue & silver as has been said. My main crit would be the main signage on the sides should be a bit smaller, it’s all to near the edges and a bit in your face.

Well done M8 youve earnt a few days off – spain perhaps – well done :appl:

Mix thought on the design, will take on board. I love the colours looks really good in the flesh.
The choice of colour was really ref MOT colours and is very close, could have done a full wrap but I really feel that there would have been no need, money not an issue and the customer choose from a few designs.
Funny about the silver and blue though as it says MOT s to me and they had a silver van. Still you cant please every one I guess.Rich

Really like the colours you used Richard, especially the blue. I usually prefer wraps of solid colours like this, to printed images.

How do you rate wrapping in comparison to paint spraying Rich? Do you think wrapping is a better option than paint, is it easier/ harder , more or less expensive? And are the results better or worse than using paint?
As you have worked as a paint sprayer – I welcome your professional opinion? 😀

spot on Richard…lovely job.
It is hard work doing a good wrap job…very intensive and exhausting. There is a strange kinda buzz you get after doing something like this job.
hop you didnt burn yourself !

Phil long term you will never beat painting, de-fleeting your never beat vinyl.
This van I see every day and although it has no massive deep recesses it will be good see in time how things hold up.
Time wise for painting, scotch off and paint, mask up and time getting ready in the oven 4 hours, 1 hour to paint and 40min bake time, not much in it.
I would say from a labour hard work point of view I would say it would be easier to paint or less hard work .
Cost wise paint and materials £120.00 this is just for the blue part and labour, say £320.00cost for hx20000 say 10 meters £110.00
labour I would want to charge £300 plus the app f digi print and design time etc etcResults wise the hx20000 has a great finish very hard to tell it from painting, to sum wrapping is better as if the van is to be changed or to go back to lease company then easy to return to original.
Will it last as long only time will tell.

cracking job Rich.
can you give me some more info on the hx20000 material and who makes/sells it.

Thanks Richand what about the other comments 😀

Well regarding the colour choice ones. I didn’t choose a colour to go with the silver it was chosen because that’s the colour for MOTs !

Don’t beat yourself up over it Rich you have done a good job, I am still learning after all these years.
Always be open to criticism good or bad and learn from it. It is easier to learn from your mistakes than not at all. I am my own worst enemy for self criticism, but my attitude is, if I can go back to a job I have done a few months after doing it and not find a fault in it then I am not learning. Never rest on your laurels.
Good luck. -
I know I have thanks Mike, not beating myself up just making clear why the blue was used. The comments made about the size and the thickness of the outlines were taken on board and are valid points.
Rich 😀 -
Rich..
Just to clarify my point re the colours…..It wasn’t the choice of blue that I was commenting on….It was the decision to leave the silver strip.
It was just my opinion that I thought it would have had more contrast with that stripe in white hence my questions about the extra time doing a full wrap.
As you say though I was just going off a photograph without seeing it in the flesh
