http://www.whatthefont.com
is sometimes helpful.
It lets you upload an image and it tries to match the font.

Rich,
Try using http://www.whatthefont.com.
I find this the best for finding similar if not exact matches to fonts.
All you need is a decent scan sized at 100 pixels high.

i have used this site but just thought there may be a better way of doing it
thanks rich -
Rich,
ther are millions of fonts around, I seem to recall that one of the popular sign programmes I tried out as a demo had a font detective, (I know signlab does) but the one I tried worked a bit better, unfortunatley, they only seem to be able to analyse the fonts already on your system.
so like the aswers above,
Or post here, someone may regognise,

Rich,
I tried vmp font detective a couple of years ago ….. I wasn’t impressed. But perhaps they have improved it since then I don’t know. I have also used http://www.identifont.com not very often does it come up with the correct font, but it’s worth a try.
Truthfully, the BEST font detective is…………. UKSB! Usually someone here knows what you’re looking for!
