    Hi,

Can anyone tell me what to use on foam-ex for lining up I have tried pencil and crayon and tried to remove it using tar & glue remover even white spirit but it’s very hard to come off.

    Any advice will be appreciated.

i often just use a felt tip pen (not a permanent marker), it wipes of easily, even a ball point pen used lightly works for me, i either use thinners or panel wipe to remove ink, felt tip is water based so wipes off dry !

i guess i should say "be careful with certain solvent cleaners and plastic boards". i generally just out a bit on a rag and wipe the offending mark,

If I do mark out I use a Stabilo
Its not only useful for Foamex but marking glass and metal
Get yourself a white and black Stabilo

I get mine from Handovers but you should get them from a good stationers or Art shop

Try not to mark to heavy and don’t do lines if you can help it
Just a tiny mark will indicate where to lay down the vinyl.
Another method of mine is to use a low tack tape and stretch from from one end to the other. Because it stretches taut it gives a good straight line.

I always place tape about 10mm below the actual baseline. It just gives you a better visual. (But remember that you have made this 10mm diff otherwise you made find that you lay your vinyl down on it)

I use china graph for big sizes. If it fits on the bench, I will put a border of masking tape attached to the bench around the cut foamex. Then I can make a jig with this tape and put all my marks on that. It works really well. I did 50 corex site boards with 6 lines of text on Friday in no time at all. Only have to mark the template once. don’t have to mark each board.

If you have a bit of scrap vinyl, why not cut little bits up out of that. You can mark out your board with some little bits and then when everything is in place just peel off.

    no mess! 🙂

I sometimes use a builders chalk line if its long and straight
failing that if the foamex isnt curved I use a laser level.
Laser beams are pretty easy to clean off lol.

I’m with Peter on this one. If I have to mark anything it’s with a chinagraph pencil.
