  • Foam PVC – sealing the edges?

Posted by Russell Spencer on 4 July 2007 at 11:10

we are spraying some 20mm letters at the moment and in the past we have had to seal the edges with PVA to stop the paint being absorbed, even after 2/3 coats it still absorbs the paint and you cant get a good finish. The problem is the PVA has to be hand painted on and does not leave a good finish.
Does anyone know of a spray sealer that will do the job, weve tried plastic sealer from Halfords etc but I think we need something a bit more specific.

    cheers

    Hi

From my experience, the only real way to achieve a good finish is to ‘sand’ the sides. Fine sand-paper and lots of elbow grease required.

This process files down the edge into a smooth surface and with primer underspray will work well to achieve a smooth and absorbant-free surface when painted.

    Cheers

Thanks Martin, the only problem is that there are 44 letters, lots of ‘S’ and ‘A’s as well.
    Elbow grease it is then.
