Fluted correx board pricing and thickness?
This may sound daft, but what thickness of fluted plastic board do you use as a standard?
the correx type stuff?
I do lots and its cheap easy work but im now getting quoted ridiculous prices that i actually think must be fake as i dont see the point turning my machine on for the money.e.g. 2ft x 2ft sign – £5
I generally get £20-£25 for a for sale sign or a builders board, nearer £35

we charge the same as you….. let the busy idiots get on with it …. they dont last and their work is normally sub-standard..stick to your guns your time & knowledge is worth more than a fiver never mind materials

i believe 5mm is the standard thickness for this sort of work. 3mm could be used for smaller stuff if your really trying to save the pennies but your talking such small differences per sheet its hardly worth worrying about. i dont do anything for 5 quid. Best thing i ever did was introduce a minimum charge.

Typically 4mm is what most will sell as standard, I buy 100, 610 x 815 every few months or so. I charge £25 each + vat, based on buying a pair to make it more economical, excluding set-up / design. If it’s simple text then a nominal set-up only.
Face covered with unlaminated monomeric print, I don’t bother with cut vinyl unless very simple single colour.

My pricing is much the same as Hughs, we also use 4mm as standard.
I did get sent a link for printed correx boards by a potential customer asking ‘how much can you do these for’.
Clicked the link, the website was selling A2 correx boards for £2.20 each.
Told him it wasn’t even worth me quoting.

I am pretty close to where you are on your pricing for one-off type stuff.
We use 5mm and 10mm correx as standard.Yes, we do some special offers for bulk buying… “for sale” signs or “builders boards” type of thing based on a minimum purchase of a full 8ft x 4ft sheet cut up into whatever sizes they will get out the sheet. But I still don’t come close to £5, that’s ridiculous!
this is a good topic, because even cheap signs like this, so many sign makers get it wrong and devalue our industry. they close down and move on, but the damage is done!

Sounds about right, as Rob says it’s easy to devalue these type of signs as they’re often viewed as cheap, disposable, temporary signs.
Here’s Prices from a local company to us, been at it years, dont even try and compete.

All those prices are crazy David, but this one, in particular, made me laugh out loud.
I do not care what the sign makers reason for this. loss leader promotion, direct to board printing, working from home, whatever, there is no excuse for this price. it is devaluing what THEY do and the industry on the whole. Just because you can, does not mean you should!
This is NOT a case of super large orders that justify it. they are stating quantity orders of one to four sheets. 🙄

8ft x 4ft Sign – £30 ???
These type of people do more damage than any other. I call them “people” because they are not proper tradesmen or they would have some sort of worth/value in what they do, daily.

Correx signs are a bit of a minefield, I don’t mind doing them and can be quite profitable
I use 4mm cut to size or 6mm in 8×4
I just use Oracal 3164 unlaminated mounted to the board.
and the same kind of prices as most.
Makes me laugh when you are told your too expensive, NOT that the other companies are too cheap and have to agree it devalues our industry.. which a lot of people in our game just don’t get..
Prices David’s put on are crazy and obviously DTS which with vinyl you’ll never compete with.

Having read everyone’s replies, I think I will keep my prices the same but give a limited time offer. A “COVID 19% off” deal for the bare basic signs. then once i have an enquiry i will try and upsell to include pictures and stuff like that to bring the prices back up in-line with what i originally charge.I dont know if it is just me, but i feel uneasy going back down on my prices. 🙄

Well my membership has paid for itself today.
Had an enquiry for some site boards, they wanted 3, so quoted on 3 and 10, having read this thread put in a higher price than I previously had, and got the job for 10 boards 👍

Many use covid as an excuse not to work or complain about doom and gloom when we should be seeing it as an opertunity!
Use COVID to enforce bigger deposits or pay in full.
Use covid to cloak “upselling” in what appears to be special offers.
Use covid to push covid signs and health and safety signs in general.
Use covid to push the need for companies to advertise their business, more now than any other time, van graphics, banners, garden signs etc
The list goes on…
The main thing is charging correct and being paid on time.
