Flood Coat or Paint
Posted by Warren Beard on 4 October 2007 at 21:02Hi All
I am doing a Dibond flat sign and the size is 10 x 3 foot. The customer wants it black with white text but my cutter is only 610 so will need to do the text over the black.
The question is do I flood coat the white Dibond with black vinyl or is it possible to paint (and what paint?)
What are the pro’s and con’s or any other options?
Thanks
Warren

Hi mate
the question is could you paint it or would you have to sub it out and will the job stand the cost, you will find any body shop well the smaller ones would do it for you. 10 mins to scotch up with a red scotch cloth and tac off and 2 coats of solid 2k 30min bake and job done. This I would do my self but I’m lucky as I have all the bits to paint

Cant you just buy black dibond
and cut the letters from white
If they are too short at 580 odd or whatever your cutter cuts out at, then unless its a script font cut them individually, its a hassle but will get the job done -
Can you not just buy in a black aluminium composite panel (?) 😀

Doh just read that yes get in some black come in matt one side and gloss the other
happy days 😳 😳

You can use macmask grey to mask out your lettering. Scotchbride the remaining areas and paint with black 1 shot using a 4" foam roller.
As I did here. I’ll post as Woodside
Hope this helps.

I still think black dibond would be ever so slightly less time consuming. :lol1:

Thanks guys
I already got the white Dibond and the customer now wants to reverse the image 😕 I would like to use the white so maybe will look in to the 1 shot as Neil Suggested.
Thanks All

by the time you do all the things to the panel you would be as well buying in a new black panel and you can always re-use the white ones…………………….I guess that’s why I’ve got loads of panels kicking about 😀

I guess cos I’m a bit of an old school signwriter type I just did it this way.
I had everything I needed to hand and I saved a day not having to wait for a delivery of black sheet. -
