Nice banner Mike, How was it fixed to the frame?
do you have any worries with expansion/contraction if its not tensioned?

These wrinkles couldn’t be seen from close up, so we had to go back and re-tension it.

Nick, no we didn’t print it, much to big for our machine. It’s 12000 x 2400 and liquid laminated. I hope it will last as it faces the sun all day. 🙄

what/whos tensioning system did you use mike? looks nice and big and an awkward size :lol1:

at tip: those wrinkles…. wave a heat gun over the area of the wrinkles, dont get too close or puase… the skin will tighten up itself and wrinkles will go fast…

that said, depends how severe the wrinkles are, from the picture and from what you said (couldnt notice up close) then these are the ones that can easily be taken out with heat gun.

thanks for taking the time to post your work mate…

    Thanks guys.
I can’t remember the company name for the frame (getting old) but the system is called "Crystal" We purchased only the frame from them, they were at Sign UK this year.
It is a fantastically simple system to use. Just a plastic beading that you hammer into the track that jams the banner in place, very easy to remove to re-adjust the banner. You have different tracks on the aluminium rails to either fix from the sides or directly from the front as we did as we only had a 2" gap around the frame.
The wrinkles were easy to remove when they had been spotted but we did leave some very small ones that were a bit stubborn. Rob as it happens the company that supplied it to us also mentioned today about heat shrinking the wrinkles out. Pity we only find that out after (?)

Cheryl the pictures are decieving as it was windy, check out pic 114 you can see the tail tucked into the ladder rungs to stop it flapping.

We printed it 100mm larger all round for handling, then when we were happy with everything we trimmed it down to the plastic strip for a nice clean finnish.

My biggest concern was getting the panel perfectly horizontal as if it run out of true you would notice it because of the tile lines. We started at the apex, that wasnt in the middle as it was 115mm to the left of centre, but I done all my home work first to eliminate any errors, then up the ladder to lightly tack the banner into place along the baseline before putting the long strips in. Made about 4 passes back and forth to get everything right. My muscles were totally shot by the end of the day with all the climbing. 🙄

thats a brillant job Mike I know you said about it being in the sun and fading perhaps if it’s near you, you could keep a check and update on it I’m sure that would be of interest to many on here

Brilliant job Mike, must admit never thought of offering that idea to customers.
Know what you mean about up & down ladders, just spent last 2 days doing the same also next Mon & Tues over at Hull (will be posting pics).

Was this job printed in strips & sewn together?

This particular job is 45 mins drive up the motorway but we have done a similar job for the same firm just down the road from us. That was using an existing frame and we just put up the flex face, but I have noticed recently that the red fade in the tiling has almost dissapeared but the red lettering is still strong after 3 years or more. So we will keep our fingers crossed as it was printed by the same firm.

The face was printed in one go with no seams at all.

lovely job! How did you fix the banner to the frame? did you fold it over like you would when hemming for extra strength and nail-screw or gun?
it is a really great option to large foamex etc signs. well done…bet you are glad it wasnt windy that day x

Brilliant work Mike am very impressed, quick question was the Crystal frame system purchased as extruded lengths that you can cut to size or is it only available as a made up kit, if extruded lengths what sort of price do they work out per metre etc?

The system can be purchased either in bar lengths or cut to suit. I ordered cut to suit but they said their saw had broken so we cut it ourselves. I think they couldn’t cut the very shallow angles on the bottom corners as they were to long for a standard chop saw. No match for our 15′ beam saw though :lol1: :lol1:
I don’t know what it worked out per meter but didn’t see any change out of £600 for the extrusions. 😳

Thanks Mike, I shall have to remember them as an option for next time we do a flex face sign or large banner to a wall
