Flattening layers /reduce file size in corel X5 – help?
Hi all,
I’ve made an A0 poster design for a customer, uses a photo faded with the transparency tool (layer 1), and then vector text / logo’s over the top. How do I flatten it to one layer / reduce the file size from 80mb in order to send the pdf to them, any way?regards,

Select bitmap elements of page, then bitmaps tab, convert to bitmap, choose resolution and colour model.
Printing to Cute will produce smaller PDF than publishing or exporting to PDF.

that’s how I do it currently, I thought there might be a way to reduce the file size somehow too without huge reductions in resolution. It’s fine to save at A4 100dpi for proofs but sending out a full size photo quality image at A0 or similar makes files of 80mb or more, sendable via dropbox etc. but rather large to handle!thanks,

why do you want to send it to them?…is it for visual purposes only or for them to use?

Printing to Cute may well give you a smaller size but it will still be too big to email. I will either use the layout tap and fit to page option to reduce to A4 for sending or do a Windows Snip. For out put and sending to trade house I will either use their own ftp or I’ll use Hightail or similar.
Sending A0 size is always going to be fairly largePrinting to Cute or any other print based pdf creator is very useful as you can use all the print preview options from separations, reduce size , convert to curves etc.

Some and some Cheryl, sometimes it’s just a proof and an A4 jpeg will do, other times I’m charging to design their posters etc. and they print themelves. Either way, if I send it to my sub-con printer I need to get it sent somehow and uploading 80mb takes a while!

Id send a snapshot as a visual and artwork via Hightail.

Cutepdf, the free version is readily avialable online. It adds another printer to your list and you just print to it like any other printer, you are prompted for file name and on ok a pdf is produced. Advantage of Cute opposed to others is that it retains the colour model you are using (CMYK/RGB/Pantone), some of them convert everything to RGB. If you are printing you can also use all of the print preview tools in Draw.
