  • Flat cut letters stand off on plasterboard wall – favourite fixing method

Posted by Alex Crosbie on 10 April 2018 at 18:09

    Hi all

I’ve fitted quite a few stand off letter jobs in to plasterboard walls over the years but never found one method I’m really happy with.

I have a job coming up which will involve around 200 fixings for stand off acrylic letters in to plasterboard….. nothing particularly heavy just wondering what others preferred fixing method is.

I’m not keen on the metal fixings as they never seem to go in the place I want them!

All views and opinions would be greatly appreciated 🙂

I have always used Rawlplugs the red or yellow one. They have a small lip on them that stops them from falling through. Just make sure the hole you drill is not bigger than the plug.

The worm fixing are okay but if they go loose then you have a big hole to cover. Plus also the screws in these don’t always fit down the locators.

Yellow raw plugs from B&Q for us, they have sharp ‘wings’ in them which grabs nicely and no.6 screws for small/medium locators and no.8 screws for large locators. 5mm drill bit for the holes does the job.

We do this weekly and never had a problems. Hope this helps.

If its plasterboard and lightweight lettering, I simply use wood screws and screw these directly into the drywall without using wall plugs. It’s quicker, and strong enough to support internal letters

I’m like Phil, course thread screw…and that’s it for smaller stuff.
