  • flat cut lettering – question ?????

Posted by Roy Roffey on 9 October 2007 at 20:46

i today received a batch of flat cut lettering in diabond from a company i shall up to now not name…

problem… when the package was opened we saw that the lettering was cut so the face side was the matt side of the diabond sheet – i was expecting gloss !!!

when i called the company i was told that something must have gone wrong somewhere ( things happen ) and offered alternatives to me…

    fine..

    then the funny bit…

i got a call to inform me that it was there company policy to cut letters etc on the matt side of a diabond sheet and i had to request when ordering to cut the gloss side – something up to now i have never done with this or any company that i have used for flat cut lettering…

there is no mention of this on there price list or order form !!!!

so – when ordering this kind of product have you had to request which side of the sheet should be the face ???

sounds a bit odd, woulda thought it’d be the other way around. i used tradesigns.co.uk, they came gloss side out, least i think they did !

    Hey Roffs

I’ve used 2 suppliers and 1 I won’t use any more even though they are cheaper but I have always stated what I wanted but I also think they are full of sh1t, if it does not say it anywhere then they either don’t state it on purpose so they can refuse come backs but you would think they have a check sheet for QC and the sales person would have to ask or cannot full out the order sheet to pass QC.

Well that’s how I would do it anyways.

I would say stand your ground and make them replace it.

I’m drawing up my first quote for pre cut letters and have phoned a few places asking about diabond and foamex, I do remember one supplier telling me there was a matt side and gloss choice, but you would think that it would be standard practice to ask which you wanted.

I mean what happened when the job was going through, did they just toss a coin to c what you got.

Your never paid them to make the decision for you, and they cant blame you for assuming you would get gloss after they have assumed you wanted matt.

I say its negligence/laziness/bad service, on there part.

there supposed to be the specialists after all.

    Name them.

thing is im on a tight deadline with this job and it has to be up for friday !!!

the thing is if they have cocked it up – fair play – hold your hand up, but i seem to believe they are winging it a bit !!!

It could be argued because dibond etc only used to come in matt… or was that rynabond?

anyway… i would have thought standard would be gloss and specialist request Matt finish.
If the material they use on a regular basis has both finishes, then it should be a question they put to you on the phone or when completing any sort of order form.
its not rocket science and something that must happen allot to them if they offer trade services.
