  • Flat cut acrylic – quality issue

    Hi All

I have just received my first ever set of flat cut acrylic letters and am not very impressed with the quality and am not sure if there is a reason for it.

It is 5mm clear acrylic, letters are 100mm high so not very big. The small squares are semi colons and should be rectangles, but as you can see the edges are rounded and some corners have humps on them!

you can see from the pictures the problems I am having. They have been flame polished.

I need to know if this is normal for routed flame polished small letters or should I complain?

    Thanks

    Warren

Warren, I don’t know much about this sort of thing but have never had letters like that when I have bought stuff in.
Looks to me like they have applied to much heat and melted the acrylic but someone like Andy who knows a lot more about this sort of stuff will probably tell me I’m talking rubbish.

looks like a blow torch has been used and melted them, our flame polisher is a tiny thin flame, it only distorts and bubbles if you overdo the polishing. we would get a little roundedness on the edge but nothing to reuin it.

Just from a viewing eye they look pretty garbage to me too. The squares don’t even look square. If it was me Id send them back, no amount of vinyl will sort them.

    Thanks everyone

I thought they were a bit sh1t and really was not happy with them, the funny thing is they were made by someone who has an advert on these boards 😕

they will be sent back tomorrow.

    cheers

get them laser cut and the edges get polished at the same time…simplastics springs to mind, if you need a number I’ll post it in the morning

As I said in my PM I think this would be down to the flame polishing, we had some very small letters laser cut 45mm high and what a classy finish, although a little more expensive
