This is how I do it.
Tools – stanley blade, FINE wet & dry paper (on block), mini gas torch.
Scrape edges with stanley blade (side on) to get a smooth finish.
(Optional) Wet & dry paper – when I say fine I mean FINE – do it wet.
Wipe off residue / dust & peel back the coating about an inch. (trim off)Get gas torch eg. pencil torch or ‘bernzomatic’ mini.
Set flame to a SOFT blue by limiting the air flow.
Move steadily over the material, flaming INTO unpolished areas – NEVER pointing at what you’ve just done (risk of overheating & ignition). Watch your speed – to fast & semi-polished – too slow & it starts bubbling.
I’ve done loads of this – from 2mm to 8mm and it works great…also cheaper than buying flame polishing kit!!
The option is to finish with a buff & brasso / T-cut instead of flaming.

In case you haven’t found out the hard way, don’t clean the panel with meths once it has been polished. 😕
