  • Flag Material Printing, help needed?

Posted by Dan Osterbery on 1 July 2008 at 11:24

    Hi All,
I have a verscamm 540 and have tried a couple of flag materials but never seem to get the result we would like!!

The print is either very washed out, or it bleeds, do anyone have any ideas, or profiles that have been succesful.

We have looked at subbing out the jobs, but as we are in menorca the flags are very low runs if not one off’s, so flag printers not really interested.

    Any thoughts??

    cheers

    Dan

    Who’s materials have you tried?

Metamark do one that is ok but a little washed out as is the Hexis ‘flag on liner’.

Hexis spinnaker sail cloth however is great for colours.

All of them however need flashing. I generally use a generic matt vinyl profile and have the print heaters up fairly high. It’s very trial and error.

    Hi Lee,
    thanks for your reply.

I have found best results with print head at 39º and dryer at 42º proile VTR (view thru vinyl) that came with versaworks, but we have tried using a load of different profiles, but the results are not good. Do you have a number for hexis?

The material we have tried is trucolour flag, which is (translated from spanish)special material for flags with paper base. Last year our supplier used a different one which was even worse.

Normally they are very good at suggesting temps and profiles but even they cant help..

The other wierd thing is when we print them small 20 x 30 for testing they dont seem to bleed that badly, but when we go anywhere near 100cm they bleed like mad.

Excuse my ignorance but what do you mean by flashing?? (newbie)

    cheers

    Dan

Hexis uk number is 01543 411221 url is http://www.hexis.co.uk

By flashing I mean that the ink needs to dry as soon as it hits the media, ie having the heaters up high, this stops it having time to bleed.

    Hi Lee,
thanks mate! I have been in touch with hexis uk who has put me in touch with hexis spain and the ball is rolling!!
What profile do you use when printing the sail material??

What sort of temp would you call a flash temp?

    thanks
