  • Fitting with T channels!

I have had problems with these in the past in windy conditions, I now have to quote for a job for a 2400mm x 450mm panel to sit on top of a marina walkway 🙄 It will fit horizontally along a metal frame and have double sided graphics, this is obviously a very windy position so need to be fixed very well.

What are the best and safest ways to fix these vertically along the horizontal length?

I used to use Jags "T" channel but is very narrow so not a lot of standing strength against the wind from both directions.

    Warren.
not quite clear from the picture and description, but are these to be fitted outside or inside the gantry, and what are you allowed to do with the structure? can you drill it or weld it. or will you have to use not intrusive methods?

    Hi Peter

These go on top of the horizontal bars and cannot damage it so yes, a non intrusive method.

I’m not sure if there will be any safe and secure way to do it so any suggestions are welcome.

I hope that’s a clearer explanation, let me know if it still does not make total sense.

    cheers

Are the gantry cross pieces round or square profile?

    Two ways I would consider,

1/ have ally panels welded to box section that is the same width as the cross members, but maybe not as deep, powder coat then use stainless
strapping to fix to the gantry.

2/ same as above but have a U section profile formed to fit the gantry cross section on the top and 2 sides, but deep enough to allow stainless bolts to be used ti clamp to the gantry.

I will do a drawing if I am not explaining to well

    Hi Warren

I can’t attach sketches in this area, so please have a look at the post with your name on it.

good idea Peter, simple too that’s why I didn’t think of it 🙄 😛

Will look out for your sketches Martin. cheers.

3mm ali should be OK won’t it? Ashby probably a good start for a quote then!

    cheers

Thanks Martin, that will also work well although a bit more complicated than Peter’s idea and also it’s a double sided print so the brackets would obscure them a bit.

Thanks again, nice detailed drawing by the way 😉

    cheers

It might be a bit more complicated than Peters.

Just wanted to explain that the upright bar goes between two signs so it won’t get in the way of the sign itself. You will need two separate boards however, but the fixing method and structure will be hidden.

OK I see, thanks again, much appreciated.

Just a thought, you could go one step further with Martin’s idea, have the brackets one at each end, sandwich the panel between them and this would aid changing the signage in future?
