Hi Guys. Hope everyone is ok

I’m looking into buying my first cutter within the next few weeks. I’ve got a budget around £250 – £300 which i know is not alot but being a student it will have to do. I’ve been looking at the Roland stika. As i know that roland have the reliability that I’m looking for.

Would anyone else suggest any other machines. The Craft looks ok but I’m after a cutter with a bigger cutting area. Its mainly going to be used for vehicle decals. I’m going to start off small and test the water. Then re invest in the future.

    Thanks in advance

Hi Paul. Been there and done that! Being very keen to get stuck in I seriously considered a cheapo Chinese cutter but a good search around the forums here put paid to that – simply too unreliable and minimal, if any, support. I spent an extra couple of months saving the pennies and researching my potential markets before settling on a 2nd user Graphtec. Do the same, young man! My advice is to look closely at the Graphtec and Roland cutters – you will not go wrong and more than likely it will be still working when its time to upgrade to a £20k Oce. Good luck

As John says, you might get lucky with a cheapo Chinese but probably won’t, too much of a gamble.
Again as John says, second hand quality machines are getteble for £400-£500 on Ebay and elsewhere.
I can imagine you’re itching to get started but experience makes me suggest saving that extra hundred or so and getting a 24" model to start out (although I survived for years with a 12")…

I bought a Graphtec almost three yrs ago and ok it was new but i’ve never even changed the blade and it comes with an opus eye as standard so you can have a go at contour cutting as well.

Bloody hell James. We did a t shirt cutting job recently (supply vinyl only) involving chrome silver, purple and red and the Graphtec blade wore out by the end of the weekend!

Good advice as above by everyone else Paul. Buy cheap and buy twice…or three times…or more in this industry. Save your hard earned and get a reputable brand. If the Craft Robo is too small maybe think about saving a bit more and going for the Robo Pro 40cm. But I guarantee you in no time you’ll wish you’d got yourself a 24” cutter.
