  • Finecut 8 download without CD Drive

Posted by Iain George on 29 March 2018 at 17:36

I have treated my self to a new PC, nothing special but as it is an all in one there is no CD Drive. I am now unable to reinstall Fine Cut 8. I have googled and looked on the Mimaki site but all I can find is updates that require the original disk to be inserted when requested.
Is there a way around this.

    Cheers
    Iain

Usb DVD drive from the likes of Argos will cost about 20 quid and just plugs in as and when you need it

I have an ISO image of Finceut 8. I just mount that as a virtual drive. I just got a new laptop with no CD drive so had to do this only yesterday.

You can take an image of the CD and use it as a pretend drive in Windows (it even assigns a drive letter to it in My Computer). Unfortunately I’m not allowed to give out my contact details or reply to PMs or I’d send you it.

I make a point of ALWAYS having a PC with a DVD/CD writer on my network somewhere. You never, ever know when you might just need one to write something to disc for someone else, or if a new piece of software/hardware comes with drivers on a disk.

I then always make sure I make a full copy of the disk to my NAS drive so it is available to any machine I plug into my network, or in case I lose/damage the original discs.

Just for your info its also possible to get a very cheap usb plugin cd drive, just plug it into a usb port and it will play any cd dvds you might have.
