  • Finally got some artwork on the walls!

Hi all, just thought I’d post a couple of pics as I’ve finally got some artwork that I’ve collected, produced myself, had as gifts or bid for and won at Letterhead events in Europe.
There’s a mix of gold leaf, lots of hand painted lettering and pinstriping, faux distressed signs and posters from my signwriting friends as far away as Australia, USA, Finland, Holland and the UK.

    Hope you like 🙂

Some fine work there Neil. The two alphabets remind me of the work I used to get from some poster writers that I worked with, it’s a lost art nowdays.

Cheers Steve, the alphabet posters are by Jeff Marshall, it’s hand painted then digitised and is available on Letterhead Fonts. Good to say signwriting is far from a lost art these days there are so many young people taking up the brush.

It’s poster writers who have disappeared Neil, I used to have 2 writers write 400+ 20" x 30" cards for me every 3 weeks – all brush and Plaka paint, the same job now is done digitally, interestingly, using one of the fonts from Letterheads.

    Is Plaka paint still available?

Ahh yes sorry Steve, you don’t see poster writing like it used to be and it’s definitely an art in itself. There used to be a guy near me who just did posters day in day out but it’s not called for now in supermarkets and high streets sadly.

I was a poster writer, got through gallons of plaka. It is still available but small pots only from what I can see.
Ticket writing was a very profitable business but died when pc’s with printers arrived 🙁 .

Lovely work Neil, and nice to hear young people taking to the brush…such a unique and classy look when done well.

Cool Martin, Plaka is still available in small jars. I remember the large tins we used to be able to buy 🙂
