‘feather’ flags-is this what they are called?
Posted by Lorraine Clinch on 20 January 2006 at 17:01Hi everyone, have had a request for ‘feather’ flags, but don’t know if this is what they are called?
They are the type of shaped nylon flags you see outside car sales showrooms or indoor exhibitions, where they look as though they are on bent fishing rods!
If anyone has a clue what I am on about, and can recommend suppliers, I’d be grateful
Thanks

Loraine, a few years ago I bought the poles from here:-
http://www.dunstable-kites.co.uk/I dont know if they still sell them. but they are like a carp pole (used in fishing) They were relatively cheap to buy, We experimented with the ripstop nylon that they also sell, The sail forms the shape, a hem is stitched down one side in the “feathe shape” We used heat transfer, but because of the size, did not have a lot of success. perhaps now the print side could be done a lot cheaper than then..
Probably not a lot of use to you, just a few thoughts…

All very interesting stuff, I investigated getting hold of these from various places, they were imported from S.Africa or Australia and are very expensive. I tried getting hold of the rods but they were more expensive than a company selling the full thing on Ebay.
Something to watch for, is does it have a bearing at the base so it can swivel in the wind.
Steve B (haven’t seen him here for some time)has a mate who makes them.
Ebay ones are the cheapest I have seen, but I think they just sit over a spike that you hammer in the ground.
Cheers

Thanks everyone, at least I know where to find them now. Funny enough, the customer is owner of a huge fishing supplies store, so I shall look into supplying the flag only, perhaps he can make his own poles! 🙄

quote DaveBruce:they were imported from S.Africa or Australia and are very expensive.
Dave.com.com.comThey are mega expensive here too Dave. The company that makes them in Oz is about 30 mins from me, but the prices they quote are outrageous 👿
Only people buyng them are corporates, and the manufacturer sells direct so it is really hard to compete on that level.
