• Fastrak 1300

    Hello all,
We recently purchased a nearly new Gerber Fastrak 1300 plotter which is
used along with our Summa T1400. The Fastrak had a decent blade fitted when we bought it but is now in need of a replacement. We’ve bought 3 new blades from Spandex and the cutting quality of the new blades is really poor 👿 (distorted letters and open corners.0 We have a manual which tells you to recalibrate the settings on the plotter every time a new blade is installed but this has made no difference and is also quite time consuming. With the Summa, we simply put in a new blade and it’s ready to go. Is anyone familiar with the Fastrak and has found an easy way to replace a blade?
    All help would be appreciated.

    Hi Alan

We used to have a Fastrack 1300, once the Spandex blade was blunt we changed to using blades from Edward Mathias ( tel 0151 728 7221).
from what I remember they supplied us a blade that was fixed in a plastic holder, that then fitted into the carrier. Once blunt you sent the whole lot back to be exchanged for a new one.
They lasted a long time as well compared to the Spandex blade, hope this helps.

    Hi Alan,

I do exactly the same as Neill and get a first class service from
Edward Mathias. Have always used them for my blades for my HS15 plotter as well.

    Hi alan.

from what you say you may have grit in the bearings of the blade holder or just a bad batch of blades what have spandex to say.

Thanks for the info Neill and Dave,
I’ve just rung Edward Mathias and they’re sending me a blade and holder in the post (cost £20 to start and £10 when it’s returned for a new one)
They didn’t even ask for payment first seeing as I don’t have an account with them.

Phone them back and ask for two, then when you send one back for re-sharpening, you have a spare to tide you over, just in cas of delays in the “wonderful” post service.

Dave, I think I’ll try the blade out first to see if it’s ok. If it is then I’ll do as you suggest and keep a back-up.

    Chris,
In reply to your post, I don’t think there’s any grit in the bearing and I will contact Spandex if I find that the Mathias blades are cutting ok, as you say, it may have been a faulty batch that Spandex sent us, but never having ordered them before I’ve got nothing to compare with.

    Thanks for your input

    Hi All,
Just a quick update on the plotter blade problem. The blade and holder arrived this morning from Edward Mathius – problem solved, it cuts perfectly without having to re-calibrate the settings.

    Thanks
    Alan
