Failed partial wrapping attempt – What went wrong?
Okay, I attempted to use rolands certified cast vinyl with oraguard 290 to cover the entire top of a mini cooper with a British flag. Though it was not “wrapping film” I thought I could still do it, man was I wrong.
I printed the flag in 2 panels, running front to back (each panel was about 24″ X 74″. Though there is one monster of a sunroof that covers 2/3 of the top, I was going to trim this area out and use a perferated film. I started with the middle of the graphic and tried to do it one side at a time (only removing half of the backing). After only a few inches, the severe curve of the side of the roof started to give me problems and before I knew it, it was hopeless. I had to return the car to my customer with no flag (she only gave me 4 hours to complete the job) and I told her that things did not go as I planned and in order to achieve the full wrap I would need to order a different vinyl. 😳
Do I need to convert to wrapping film? Or am I just too inexperienced? I have never wrapped anything, though I have done some recess work, but Have never had this type of experience with the curves. I completely underestimated the curves of the roof, especially the corners! Should I give it a go with wrapping vinyl, or go to school for wrapping? I do not want to embarass myself again if the wrapping vinyl does nothing for me.
I have never used wrapping vinyl, but if it will dramatically simplify this job I will give it a shot. I would like to complete the job as I am already in the hole at least $75. If not, I will just cut my losses and move on.Any advice would be helpful, Thanks!
