fabrication: Vinyl Holder
Posted by Jason Xuereb on 20 March 2008 at 04:10Pretty proud of this one. Second steel project. Came out pretty good in the end. Turned out to be a 36 roll holder as opposed to the planned 40. I figured I’d space them out a bit more and drop off one row.
Chris Wool: I took extra time painting it this time around..

Nice bit of welding, whats your dancing like???? (Flash dance)
:lol1: :lol1:
Is that a games machine in the background??
-
Jason, you are so lucky to have so much room!!!!
Nice vinyl racks. -
Hey Graeme,
No flash dancing here. I bought one of those automatic welding masks.
That is an arcade machine. More so a MAME arcade machine. Its basically a control panel hooked up to a computer so you can play all those old games like PAC MAC etc. It was my first wood working project when I tried to stop being a nerd and wanted to be handy.
Hey Lorraine the space is great. Easter is letting me do some projects I haven’t had time for to help us keep organised.

I bought into a business which had been running for a whike, they had a rack of wooden rails like yours, same idea but cheaper.
I havw 2 walls full of rob’svinyl roll-holders, woks well, depends on space & set-up. -
Hey Lorraine the only reason I built these like I did is cause I wanted to practice to weld. We don’t really stock coloured vinyl any more. All the bits on the shelves are just what was left from a previous orders.
I will probably make another digital media rack for the over laminates.
Have a good Easter.

i have one of those masks Jason, excellent for welding with. night and day in comparison to the old school masks. really makes welding life much easier.
love the racks too mate. I’m in the process of working on some sheeting racks just now in our workshop. i think i will have a go at welding some vinyl racks similar to yours if i have any spare steel by the time i am done. 😀

Jas, why dont you stock coloured vinyl?
The rack looks ok, but I find the best and most efficient way to store rolls, is on shelves, about 200mm wide, rolls placed next to each other in the upright position, each one can be seen, and no wasted space

Hey Rob,
I tried welding using my dads hand held mask. It’s always black. Made it really difficult to see what I was doing. The local hardware place had the auto mask for $70AUD so I picked one up.
Peter: We don’t stock vinyl colours for two reasons really. We rarely use it due to being priced right out of the water for vinyl only jobs. Secondly if I did need to bring it in stock if I make a phone call by 11am will have it here by 2-4pm same day.
The only colours we keep are black and white. We don’t offer vinyl online and only use it for custom jobs etc. Everything gets printed these days. No more weeding and we just mount to the substrate or ship it straight out.
