We were asked by Tate & Lyle to produce a replica of there famous Golden Syrup tin, to be mounted on the side of there building in Docklands. We were quite surprised when we started assembling the ‘tin’ as to how BIG it actually was !! 😮

nice one ady, top notch work mate… very impressive.
how/where did you get the frame work to construct it?
what did you sheet it with?

It was partly digitally printed, but mainly vinyls.
The gold parts had to be brushed gold exactly as per the original tins, so
vinyl was the best way to create that effect.

The framework was designed by us, but formed and welded by a local
sheet metal company. We had to assemble it outside because we would
have never got it out of the doors !!

The sheets are ‘raynobond’ (spelling) and riveted to the steel frame.

I can’t see any problem with that, that would be great !!
Credit does have to go to all at ‘Solar Graphics’ though. 😎

That certinly has a WOW factor. We super-sized some chocolate bars a while back, the scale was 12:1 this looks to be a larger scale.
Love the shine, just like the real tin.
Is it going to be a problem getting it fitted to the building or is it sitting on a pole?

Same as all above I too like seeing this type of sinage it will surely get noticed. Also good for Tate and Lyle for having someone who see’s a different approach and more importantly goes ahead with it. I think

But it could have been a sticky situation also!

Ady, how did you manage to hide the joins, In the composite, and vinyl?

ady, it would be good to see the work "in place" if you could take some pics mate. i bet it will look great.
how will you be fitting it to the building?
im guessing fixings from the inside, but doe it have a flat to prevent it moving/rolling in the wind? i see some hooks.loops on the frame will you be using steel cable in areas to suspend it also?

sorry for the questions, im just plain nosey. 😉 :lol1:

the tin itself isn’t infact a complete circle.
if you imagine a ‘pie’ chart, but with a piece of ‘pie’ taken away, that’s
what it looks like from the top.

It’s fitted to the corner of the building via
‘specially made steel adjustable ‘straps’. There were brackets welded to
the inside frame, and steel brackets fitted to the side of the building.

as for the joins, the panels were ‘butted’ together very closely. If you
could look at it closely then you would see the joins, but becuase it’s
fitted so high up they are never going to be noticed.

    As for weight . . . to be honest no idea . . . HEAVY !! 😀

    pictures of transporting . . . . . and fitted . . . . . .

    VERY Impressive!

My Grandad and Uncle used to work for Tates. My Grandad drove tankers of Liquid Sugar round the country towards the end of the career, so this has a bigger meaning to me and my family than most. It’s really nice to see the same design is still used from many years ago! Something on that scale would be brilliant to see! By Docklands do you mean London Docklands? I’d love to see that some time.

not yet mate, but it will.

My newsletter has been in hiatus all year. My wifes hospital stay (Broken Elbow, Broken hand, throat operation), and my own two hospital stays this year (knee and hand) and the resulting recoveries (and depression) has caused me to give it a miss for a while.

I should have a newsletter out by end of October though. Sick of my subscribers asking if I’d lost their email address 😳

I’ll mention it then with these photos too. I’ll post a note here when its done.

    Cheers
