Ezy Taper users?
Posted by Graeme Speirs on 21 January 2009 at 11:27hi guys,
just looking for a wee bit advice please. Tried to mount a print onto 8ft x 4ft 3mm dybond last night and it was fine except for a an approx 2ft square area bang in the middle which had LOTS of bubbles = balls up and re print. Its usually fine with other materials but Ive not done much dybond, can anyone offer advice as to how to solver this as Ive just re printed the vinyl and keen not to feck it up again! I had thought of sitting the dybond on top of another piece of foamex etc to thicken it while running through?
cheers

Graeme,
is the dibond supported all the way through, or are you letting the weight drop as it goes through?
-
i was letting it run through without any support mate. You think that could be the problem?
cheers

More than likely Graeme.
I had it happen a couple of times with 6mm pvc.
Now, I run it thru with a table on each side, or someone holding the end as it comes through.
Did it come good once the dibond hit the ground?
-
yes shane if you can imagine the first 2ft was fine, then 3 ft of bubbles in the centre area and then the last 2ft was fine again, rather annoying as it was a full colour print. Mainyl work myself so someone being there wasnt an option at 2am!!!
-
I don’t have an easytaper but I have had a problem with my laminater on larger area sheets. The way I get round it so as not to spoil the print is to line it up ready then spray the dibond with water and laminate as usual. Any bubbles can be hand rolled out easily.

me too…. been there, done that, got the shirt 😕

I use a pair of cheap Draper trestles – one either side of the Ezytaper to add support. They can be set at exactly the right height to keep the panel level.
-
ok guys will give it a whirl this avvo, my ezy taper is on my bench tho so Il try and use something that feeds the board through at the same height as it goes in and comes out.

doesn’t have to be the exact height mate, just something to take the weight once it gets about 25% through.
The weight of the board going through is basically pivoting your top roller up against the springs, and taking the weight off the bottom roll, reducing your roller action.

mmm cheers shane, just did the board and much better thanks to tips but very small section still has bubbles (again approx bang in the middle of the sheet) which have managed to "pric k " and hide if you like but i take pride in my work so not overly happy, should be okay but I dont like it not being 100%. Bit more practice needed with the big stuff but its difficult to do so without a lot of waste! thanks guys.
ps: i never used water but kinda wished I had now!

Sounds like it may need more tensioning Graeme.
Ezytaper are about to release a serious of DIY adjustments in video format. Should be available in the next day or so.
As soon as its on their site, I’ll drop you a quick email.
I also like 100% results 100% of the time…. so I do know where you are coming from.
Cheers

Thanks for your input on this one Shane. I too used to have issues like this but always put it down to my ezytaper being set incorrectly.
In our old premises space was an issue but we now have the room to do as you say.
Thanks again

Happy to help Gary.
I have direct access to Ezytaper so I’m happy to get them to help if you need it.
I’ve just taken delivery of the 2009 spec Ezytaper. Still coming to terms with it to be honest. May have to do the 2 hr drive to the ET factory for some tips 😳
Its like starting all over again….. 🙁 Hope to have it mastered by April, just in case they have one at the show. At this stage they don’t look like displaying one as far as I know though.
I think their sales in Oz are keeping them busy enough at the moment.

gary, thats exactly the position im in, 8 x 4s are tough but moving into new place this weekend and have built a 34ft x 5ft wide bench so it will make life a lot easier.
shane, the tension is an issue actually in the sense that there is no tension!!! I took tension off completely when doing some 10mm correx and havent changed it back!!! Pretty sure that will have caused these problems also. Will be better organised over the next few weeks to practice some more.
Might be a good idea to have a thread just for the ezy taper , like a tips and handy hints section as I reckon theres lots of users now and it does have certain nuances to ensure it works well.
cheers guys.

I use my two ET’s everyday, if there is an issue, I’ve usually found it first…
Hearing that you have released the springs is, I’m sure, the contributing factor mate.
Be careful with the re tensioning though. Incorrect tension will cause creasing and it can also go crooked when laminating boards.
As far as having a ET thread, I’m sure Warrick would welcome something like that to help with maintenance issues.
He’s happy to help if you contact them directly though. He is very aware that you have no representation in the UK at the moment, and customer service is important to him. If he doesn’t get back, his lovely partner Maree will contact you.
Once the videos are up, I’m sure they will be a good tool for all ET users… including me..
Cheers

What is the difference between the new machine and the old? Also is there any sign of a UK Distributor??On a different note (Slightly tongue in cheek) but Ezytaper should send a machine over and then pay your expenses to run demos on it seeing as you are coming over, I for one would welcome seeing how the experts do it.

Finally Eazy Taper said they would replace my faulty unit but I would have to pay for shipping to the UK. since I asked them to let me know how much this would cost thet have not contacted me. This was back in November and I have sent emails but had no reply

Martin, I have taken this up with EzyTaper this morning.
They are a little upset as they have replied to all you emails and are waiting on your reply. They have been sending emails but get no response. I’m wondering if it is going in your spam bin?

What is the difference between the new machine and the old?Gary, the new machine now lets you laminate roll to roll, so you don’t need a table for that. The platinum package has roll holders so you need less room to do the simple laminating tasks.
The website is up and running from this morning. Check it out ezytaper.com..
I’ve not had a chance to check it out myself yet, probably have a look myself tonight.
Cheers

are the stands/rollers going to be available in the UK, only we never got the same stands as you on previous models. We got flimsy steel versions, the first one had no wheels, i have now got the later stand which is not much better & resembles a mecano set construction.Kev

I’ll ask them for you mate. Let me get back to you.

i agree with kevin
on the build of the stand when i got mine holes didn’t even line up properly and it is very awkward to move around as the wheels are basically office chair wheels. the whole stand is flimsy
the wood base as it has no support is starting to bow
i would like to see the new stand and how it compares.on a brighter note i wouldn’t be without it and its paid for itself over and over.

I have to agree. I got used to using it very quickly and it has saved us so many hours in the 18 months it has lived with us.
The stand ….. well I have to agree with Kev and Derek.
Cheers
