Has anyone ever found that they have needed an eyeone meter to linearize their machine. Apparently this is a really cool bit of kit which can give you true colours in LAB values to give more accurate results. If so where did you purchase it and how much.

    Hi Marshy,

I guess you’re talking about monitor calibration, I personally use the spyder pro, got mine from colourconfidence.com they also sell the Eyeone and some use full others. Funny thing this but didn’t seem to find much on monitor calibration in the forum. Don’t sign-makers calibrate their monitors ???

    Cheers Andy

Its something I keep on at Steve about …. as the colours we print are not the same as on screen … I am on the right path arent I with this or as usual have I lost my way? Didnt get chance to look it up lastnight so hopefully I will get some time today? I know its been discussed here in the past … Im sure someone even did a sort of step by step thingy on it …… but then I could be wrong … there is a first for everything 😉 😛

    hi folks,
the eye-one is good little package, but there is a few different version of it, best check with your rip supplier before diving into it.

The golden rule in printing with any package is the screen is ‘simulating’ the colours of your file… no two monitors are the same. This is why we have pantone charts for litho printing so we have a good idea of what colours are going to be close to.

I am actually trying to get the two companies that I work with to go halves on such a device, but they are expensive and it really is down to the rip and how well they work. This is why we bought Shiraz as there is 100s of profiles for our printer which was done by Shiraz in London. Linearisation is important but for a simple sign shop who doesn’t need to print colour corrected files too often, you can get away with it by printing out a pantone chart and place it on the wall and then altering your file by changing the colours to match the wall chart, much easier.

I purchased the Epson 2100 which offered a bundled Gretag Macbeth EyeOne Match. (the bundle made it about £130)

I’ve not used any others, but it’s certainly one of the best investments i have made – use it with ICC profiles and you get pretty much perfect prints. Shame the print calibrators are in the region of £1000.

It comes in especially handy when you have plasma displays. We have a plasma in the baordroom, and when you connect it to a laptop often the plasma colour is terrible.

The make good pranks as well as they look a little bit like mice with no buttons and suckered feet. Really confuses even the best of computer users!
