  • Eye letting machine advice please?

Posted by Daniel Evans on 9 April 2012 at 18:01

Hey guys, I know this has been asked before but the thread was a bit old.

I need to make a banner and the cost of getting it made for me including the delivery is near what I’m charging and I still need to layer vinyl on it. So my next thought is to buy the material and make it myself, I know it’s gonna be more expensive but I always want banners myself but they’re only ever gonna be single items and delivery is killing me.

So I’m looking at buying a eye letting machine but I want one that will last and is cheap, can anyone recommend one?

we bought a good one from print one, think it was about £80. We have since bought a bigger one because of the amount of banners we were making, but it was ideal for the small amount we used to do.

Hi Jason thanks, I’ll take a look, what size eyelets are standard on banners?

They vary, but print one also supply the eyelets for these machines.

There are other good suppliers out there, we buy from Atwells who are now hanolex.

    They do machines as well

    +1 for atwells.

Speak to chris there, he helped me out when I was in a very similar position.

It was a hour round trip to get a banner finished, and if they didn’t do it whilst I waited meant another hour the next day.

Now I can print and finish a banner quicker than it used to take to get there!

    Thanks guys

Spoke to Chris and he’s got them in stock with 11mm tooling which he tells me is pretty much the norm, spoke to Print one and they only have the one with 9mm tooling available which seems a bit small and they’re not sure when they’ll get the larger tooling in. There’s a bit of a price difference in both machines but looking at the pictures they look identical.

    Mines from atwells.

They’re not the cheapest, but its never missed a beat, helpful, and good service.

Just don’t drop it on your foot. it weighs a ton

I’d put forward DTP supplies – they have there own tooling department so can make specials etc to order. I cant remember how much it was but its lasted donkeys and will probably outlast my career!

http://www.dtpsupplies.co.uk we deal with John Preston

I use their nickel plated eyelets – again like the one mentioned above they are very very heavy so dont drop it!

That’s great Daniel. I am sure it won’t let you down.

I am always pleased when people use companies people have recommended. I like to get recommendations for my work, and I am sure the same applies to other businesses. Let’s you know you’re doing something right.

Be careful not to buy any from "the bay" (oops i swore, sorry) we bought some "brass" eyelets, a couple of months later the banners we printed had horrible brown run down it where the eyelets had rusted, turns out they werent actually brass lol
