Hi, there’s an encadnovajet pro-60e advertised here- I haven’t been able to find much in the way of specifications, nor problems people may have had with it. I did read the print resolution was only 300 dpi though- that sounds a bit rough, or is it?
I have an HP designjet 650C, and it’s pretty rough on paper at 600 dpi, but it was made more for drafting…

I’d appreciate any advice/opinions/info on the 60E, thanks!

I have an old Novajet Pro50, 4 colour at 300 dpi. It’s been collecting dust in the corner of my studio for quite some time now. While the resolution isn’t that great you can get away with it on large prints when people don’t get all that close. A constant problem with this old printer is micro-banding, aside from the general hard work required in maintaining decent print consistency.

The excitement of being able to output huge prints wears off real quick when all you want is a machine to get the job done without all the hard work and headaches.

It’s like that is it Bill!

Thanks for the reply- the vibes I’ve been getting are that it isn’t a great idea…

What are they like at printing on plain bond paper, or on vellum, to make a screen positive, for screen printing? Is the 300 dpi ac coarse as I’m guessing it may be?

(we have a designjet 650C- and it’s 600 dpi is pathetic if you want a bit of a decent halftone. It’s fine for solid colours though)

Ian, I used my Pro50 to make everything from posters to printed vinyl vehicle graphics. It’s amazing what you can do with 300 dpi UV pigment inks and a couple of Metres distance between viewer and print 😎

Certainly the old beast is a far cry from modern machines in terms of speed and resolution. That being said, an old machine running pigment UV inks that can print 50 inch wide photos onto paper/canvas/vinyl for well under a thousand bucks is a pretty inexpensive setup 😉

Oh, I had no idea you could get UV-stable pigment inks for it. I had an idea the pigment inks made for it were only really OK for 6 weeks maximum…

What brand were yours, and from where did you get them, Bill?

    (thanks!)

Ian, I bought 1/2 Litre bottles of Encad compatible UV pigment GO (graphic Outdoor) inks from GlobalPrintSupply.com for about $50 US per colour ($200 for the set plus about $40 delivery). The cartridges are about $25 – $30 each through US ebay, plus delivery. Unlike the Pro60E, the Pro50 doesn’t require chipped cartridges.

Outdoor durability of the ink itself seems as good as anything else provided it’s laminated well.

Thanks, Bill- I thought I saw them for about $250 a bottle, per colour… I’ll have to keep looking.
