    Hi

I’m looking for a product to apply on the edges of white van magnetic material. Extra glue for the vinyls edge when i put a solid colour on first . Am i right in thinking it’s the 3M Edge Sealer 3950 i need for the job?

    Thanks
    Shaun

    Hey Peter

I’ve done a couple of jobs and both people have said that, the vinyl background colour pulls away from the edge of the magnetic. They peal the magnet off from the same corner every night after work. this one guy always peals the mag off from the top left and the vinyl has lost its tack on the corner(s) him/they peal at…

it shouldnt need edge sealed. never heard of this in my life mate…
tell them to take more care taking off the panels.

are you buying your panel from a reputable source?

    I have a similar query.
I have usually run flood coated vinyl past the edge of the substrate and then filed it off along the edge. Seems to make a a smooth edge which is stuck well.
How do others finish their vinyl at the edge?

Also I am in the process of doing some info boards for an outdoor nature reserve. They have requested the edges sealed against the weather. Is there a way to do this? I would normally place a laminated print straight onto an Aluminium plate, (via Ashby)

I get most of my stock from mdpsupplies. It’s not the material all my other jobs are OK. I think it’s just gonna happen if you pick at a corner, this guy just reminded me about a video on YouTube.

A guy was making a sign and I remember he used an adhesive that looked like squeeze plastic shoes polish things with the sponge applicator. I can’t remember the job but it was for such an application, being touched and moved all the time. I just remember thinking I should get some of that…

That’s what i’m after, a glue for jobs like this, also my picking guy. I’ve also been thinking about fridge magnets and, i’ve been thinking about little kids picking at the edges. Is it the 3M Edge Sealer 3950 that i need for jobs like this or, does anybody know about the little squeeze plastic shoes polish thing, with the sponge applicator filled with edge sealer that i looked at on YT

The answer to this is round the corner, it only needs to be the radius of a penny, but if it’s fairly rounded it looks good too.

If someone has a fair set of finger nails or just isn’t very careful, the corner is the first place the magnetic will show signs of wear. As magnetics get older and generally deteriorate having a rounded corner keeps them nicer for longer.

I’d question the quality of the magnetic if they’re really bad, there’s a lot of nasty magnetic available out there. It’s one of the products that’s gotten worse over the years. I used to use literally miles of it in the 80s, but now I’ll only use it if there isn’t an option.
