hi, would anybody be able to give me a rough approximation of how many meters sq you can print with a 440ml or 220ml ecosol max ink? I am in the process of buying a VS-640 after many years of paying somebody a fortune to do all my printing.

I know this might sound like a stupid question because this would depend on what the artwork your printing is like and would vary but any rough figure would do as i just need to punch a figure into my business plan and cant find this info anywhere, like i said, just a rough approximation will do.

    Thanks in advance

Versa works rip could tell you what it costs, ask your sales guy.

I dont run Rolands so dont really know but the ink dose go along way unless you are printing blacks with about 60% of every thing ells.

I asked a sales rep what the average cost per Sq/M was at sign and digital.

They said approximate cost was £2.50 Sq/M… however I believe it’s much lower than that.

A 440ml Cartridge costing £79.99 works out at 18p a CC, In versaworks you can view the job log, after ripping the file it will display an estimated volume, after printing it will update with what I assume is a more accurate figure.

Ink usage also depends on what profile you’re running, some profiles may put down more ink than others.

I personally don’t worry about ink costs/usage, as it’s included in the Sq/M price I charge the customer.

I have to agree with David. If you charge the right price for your print the cost of the ink is negligable. I can be certain that while the printers are running we are making money.

On the 4 colour versacamms a sqm uses approx 10cc for your average photo so on a 6 colour printer it’d be half as much again.

The main cost is in the buying and maintenance of the machine.

I would agree with Gary and David, the cost is a lot lower than the sales reps tell you. They are covering themselves.

I have just been printing the attached which is 1.43 sqm in total. It cost €1.22 which is about £1. I used the Static cling profile which uses more ink than the normal generic profiles.

The ink usage does depend on the profile used, but as has been said, it is the purchase and maintenance of the machine that costs the money. I have a VS540 and in my view, it has been worth every penny, not only do I have a quality that I can reproduce time and again, but I am also in control of my own turnround times.

In my view, having your own printer is probably the best thing you can do. It will save you money in the long term as long as you look after the machine and maintain it well.
