    Hi All

    trying to sort out my sons laptop, downloads are hanging and not completing ie avg updates, i tunes, quicktime often hanging on 72% regardless of how long the window is left open it wont complete.

    PC running Windows 7 plenty fast enough with loads of memory etc

    any clues where to start solving this

    John, you sure he has enough disc space, I know it must be quite a new machine but you would be surprised just how quick some kids fill them up with music, photos, games etc etc.

    Maybe ISP dropping connection?

    Martin as said in the post no issue there

    Tim will try using my USB dongle internet connection tonite to rule out any ISP problem and will report back

    Also check windows firewall and anti virus settings, I know with itunes you have to disable all antivirus and firewall settings untill the download has completed or it wont work,

    In general antivirus and firewall are a big problem with all downloads

    John, sorry I assumed you were refering to RAM when you said lots of memory, not actual hard disc space. I know just how quick kids can fill up the "C" drive as this is the first place anything installs or downloads to.

    You could also try connecting to the router using a network cable, this will help to eliminate any wireless problems.

    Don’t think it will be a virus problem but doesn’t hurt to run a scan anyway but make sure you run a deep scan and not just a quick scan.
