  • Does anyone use debt recovery companies?

Seriously thinking about getting one to chase my non payers. Don’t have many but one in particular has really hacked me off and i’m determined to get my money. Does anyone use any of these companies? what are the fees like and do you get good results?

We use Judges Demand on the Wirral.

It cost us aprox £500 to sign up with them, which gives us unlimited credit reports on any Ltd Company for life!

They don’t charge us to recover a debt, but add their fee’s to what they recover, which I like as it gives them an incentive to recover it.

They recovered £600+ from a trade customer, who I really thought was just going to fold the company and disappear. To my surprise they recovered the full amount, and have recovered a smaller £65 debt from before Christmas.

We don’t go in with the Debt Co immediately but when it’s taking up too much of time, and they’ve ignored our threats, then we unleash them and let them pick the bill up.

In Scotland you can raise your own small claims (less than £3,000) simply by downloading the forms, filling in the details, and lodging them with the court. And it doesn’t cost much (about £15 admin the last time I used it).

It’s deliberately designed to be quick and easy. I have used this on occasion when all my attempts at getting paid have been exhausted and it has never failed me yet. Usually it’s enough to simply send out these completed forms to the non payer to get the bill settled before it even goes to court.

We also use a local solicitor, he charges £6 to send a warning letter and 9 times out of 10, customers pay their bill soon after. Works for us

It certainly is, we got sent one by them 😮 ( by mistake of course) but we decided to follow up and find out how much that sort of thing would cost
