If you want countersunk rivets, they are not "pop Rivets"
I dont think they are available for use without a press,
A pop rivet has a shank through the middle, so always leaves a hole, when squashed.

To use a countersunk rivet, you would also need to pre drill the plate with a countersink.

There are otherways to conceal the fixings, why do you need countersunk
    rivets?

When I buy signblanks from Ashby (complete with post rails) on the back they have countersunk fixings holding the rails on. I’ve always also thought these were rivets. I beleive this is the type of fixing Steve must be refering to. 😀

Correct Phill, but not "pop" rivets, Ashbey do cs rivets, but using a press, they need a pressure from both sides to form them, like the ones in old ships,

Countersunk heads need countersunk holes though,

Steve, tell us what the application is for, and we may be able to suggest a method of fixing.

    …coutersunk POP RIVETS.

Used them before too. Just watch you don’t c/snk too deep or you’re stuffed!

Yep your right Dave, glad you posted that because I was dreading telling Peter he was wrong :lol1:

I use them when I am making up signs with channel on the back and a few other things.

    ok guys
I’m wrong, but pop rivets ain’t flush, they always have the hole in the middle. And I did say they need a countersunk hole!

And to be fair – the "rivets" I’ve seen on the Ashby signs don’t have a hole in the middle so they can’t be "pop rivets" but must be done in the way Peter described.

    True, they are ‘proper’ rivets.

    Rivets are rivets are rivets!
Is "POP" not one of those brand names that’s morphed into the actual product like PERSPEX for acrylic and HOOVER for vacuum cleaner (!)

Use countersink pop rivets all the time

    Fred,
Pop rivets are also more correctly called ‘Blind Rivets’. A Scottish invention, they were further developed in America in the aircraft industry and became the rivet of choice, for many aircraft during the Second World War.
Chief advantage over the solid rivet, as described by Peter, is that they can be installed by one person very quickly and also in situations where the ‘blind side’ is not easily accessible ie: a wing surface.
Dissadvantage is that it not nearly as strong as its solid equivalent. There are at least 20 types of ‘pop’ type rivets available, including the popular mushroom head.
