mutoh is a reliable make. so i doubt you will have problems with the machine. however… these days i think the biggest problem comes from after sales on equipment like this. as long as your source is reputable too i think you should be fine all round.

I don’t know anything about Mutoh plotters either, did you buy it new or second hand? If you have bought second hand do you know anything about the machine at all, ie how old is it, what sort of work was it doing, why was it for sale etc….. Might be worth getting an engineer out to give it a service and make sure it is set up right as well if it is a used plotter although this can be a bit expensive.

i had a mutoh sc 650 and it was very good from memory you should be able to cut test sheet to see if everything is OK with it. blades and cutting strip easy to change. turn the speeds down as i remember it being realy quick

I have one sitting under my work bench that I have never turned on. done some work for an office clearance company that couldn’t pay their bill so they let me have a wander around and take a few bits to the value. I done some research into them and they seem pretty good machines. Like Robert said, hardest part are the spares and even consumables if you want to use the carousel picker. But they have got good reliability reports 🙂

i think a valuable lesson should be taken from the countless posts on this site regarding people buying the P-CUT vinyl cutters off of eBay. apparently the machine is a good enough machine for those with a tight budget. but the source in which you buy it from has a twist for the worse.
from what i make of it, if you are buying from a reputable UK distributor like Flynn Signs you buy a CE approved model and you get the support that goes with it.
Buy the same model of cutter from eBay sources in China and the like and the machine will NOT be CE approved and you have zero support.
anyway… motuh don’t fall into this category but its worth keeping in mind. -
I have the same machine SC650, never had a problem cuts well but needs to be set up correctly. You can download the manual from the manufacturers website and cut test pieces. Be warded, you will need a lot of paper in your printer for this!

Chris
