Has the heading states does anyone else service gerber edge fx’s apart from spandex?

I have just purchased a second hand one and was wondering if I could save any money as I know spandex are not cheap.

How much does spandex charge for servicing a gerber fx?

Spandex are the only company to service and maintain these machines. I would recommend that you have it serviced. I think the call out charge is £300 plus parts. Once it has been given a clean bill of health I would recommend putting it onto a service contract if you are going to use it heavily. This is only about £100 a month and will cover visits but not new heads. I think you get a 25% discount though off a new head plus labour is free.

If you do not renew parts they recommend at the intial service they will not cover it.

A great machine if looked after.

Can be, but if you get it serviced when you don’t have any problems with it you could save yourself a fortune. Been there 😥

A new power supply for these machines is £1200 plus VAT and they go without warning.

You also ensure priority repairs if it is under contract.

Jason. I don`t think its that much, we had an engineer out when we had connection problems. I think it was more like £175 for the first hr, then £? per hr after that.

But I would imagine its also based on where you are in the country. ( the engineer lived 2 miles away from us)
I have to say, the engineer we had out was very good, He fixed our problem quite quickly.

It might be alot of money, but your machine is of no use if it doesn`t work.

Last time I had a non-contract call out it was: £250 call out which included the first hour, £35 per hour there after + parts, on this repaoirs parts alone came to £1200 😥

most digitial printers come with a service contract… couple of grand a year is something to be expected

Power units, yeah they break… got an electronics engineer on the case last time who was relative. Just ordered up all the parts from RS and soldered them on, maybe I should do this as a business haha

I would say that John Cooper who contibutes quite a bit on here (he may jump in now) bought a second user FX and has had no issues. Not sure how much he uses it though.

I’ve had an Edge FX for over 6 years and an Edge Trunion II for about 17, service contract on the FX from memory is £53 per month including head cover.

On the older Edge I had 7 printheads (seem to remember they where about £2k supply & fit, might be wrong), but covered by the service contract.

Both machines are very very reliable, but as with everything they can go wrong, with a contract you will cover parts/labour and priority appointments.

I have an extended cover with the HP L25500 as well, as there’s nothing worst than equipment breakdown (= no work done, = no money!).

Rather be safe than sorry, had a lot of fellow signmakers that I know call me when their machines broke down and no contract….and that’s when it hurts the wallet!!!

Hi George, is that a contract with Spandex? It states explicitly in ours that heads are not covered. We’re paying more than £54 a month as well

    Hi Jason,

It is indeed with Spandex, and does cover the head as well.
I do remember that there are various levels of cover which have different prices, so it might be worth checking them out.
Maybe this has nothing with it, but I’ve had a cover with them for 17 years so I might have a better price (bit like car insurance no claim discount)

Hi George, it must be down to the amount of time you have been with them because I double checked at the time as our VP heads are covered under contract and i was told the heads are not covered. I’ll give them a call but i remember checking as we pay more for edge cover than we do for inkjet

Here I am, jumping in 🙂

I have to admit that I don’t use our FX very much. Having said that, it owes me nothing and has paid for itself many times over.

I guess if I relied on my FX for my living, I’d insure it with a maintenance contract – I don’t so I don’t 🙂 BUT, I might consider it.

I don’t like the lack of competition in the UK Gerber marketplace. Spandex have no competition and therefore there’s no pressure to be competitive.
