do prints dry on take-up rollers?
Posted by Lorraine Clinch on 5 November 2009 at 13:40Is it OK to leave prints on the take-up roller? Up to 2 metres? Or should they be removed after printing and hung up/laid flat to dry?
Sorry, one of those silly questions that I am going to have lots of!Thanks

As long as your post heaters start the drying process, the prints should be dry
enough by the time they reach the take-up. We regularly print 50 metre rolls
overnight unattended. -
Thanks Jamie, answered that question!

As a rule I take everything of the machine and hang them to out gas.
But yes 2m left on the take-up would be Ok i would have thought. -
We leave them on the take-up roll, like Jamie.
Although the ink dries enough for that, it can still be a little bit tacky and, for that reason, I would never lay prints out flat. That’s just asking for dust to settle on the ink and get stuck.

If it’s a wrap print then we usually take it off the machine and let it unroll on the core so that there is at least some air getting to the print.

Forgot to add – we also do this. Once material is unloaded, I stand it on a roll
end to outgas for 24hours.
