do Digital angle finders do the job properly?
Posted by Daniel Evans on 16 October 2012 at 19:03Hi
I’m interested in getting a digital angle finder to help me line up graphics, I’ve looked on jag but are there any others out there that I should be looking at, I know you can get these things for very little but jag’s is fairly expensive but do you get what you pay for?

i bought the one from JAG, i havent yet used it, 3 years later! 😳 :lol1:
I will add, this has nothing to do with the device, just i have forgot i have one in my box any time i have had the requirment for such a device. 😕 😮 daft but true!
i remember buying it and thinking it would be better fixed to a longer rule of some sort. this would allow me to use something like a chinagraph pencil to make a mark where i planned positioning the text/graphic.
there are also laser levels available which show the laser line at any angle on any type surface and length.

Hi rob thanks for getting back to me, i’ve not seen the laser where did you see it?

I have had an inclinometer for a number of years from Jag Sign Supplies, although it works fine, I find it tricky and time consuming to use.
I now use a spirit level with a rotating bezzel, the one I use is a FatMax and it is quicker and easier.

I use an iphone with an app called tiltmeter pro. There are a number of similar ones, some for free.

more or less the same here
hardly used it along with loads of other tools i thought would be good to have
but one day they will come in handy 😀 -
Bought one three years ago, used it twice, tricky to use, switches on in the bag, so when you go to use it for real, it’s dead, Angle finder free app for iPad is what I use now.

Thanks guys, the iPhone app is a much cheaper option but there’s so many to choose from.
Simon, what made you use tiltmetre pro, I quickly used the free version but there’s so many to choose from?
Graham, I can’t find angle finder free, is that the actual name?

Daniel, free app is worth a try, shame I forgot I had a Dewalt laser level in the van yesterday when we met up.
Best to stick with the sill and measure up from that, mark with chinagraph and draw a straight edge. Tecno tools always look good but there are easier methods -
Hi
We use ours all the time and find them extremely useful tools – needs to be mounted in a full spirit level bar though rather than just the small unit on its own (although that is more convenient to throw in the kit bag). This allows you to work with greater accuracy.
The best we have used are from Bosch, DNM60L (2ft), DNM120L (4ft). ALthough if you search for Digital Inclinometer on fleabay then there are loads much cheaper. ALDI even had a plain branded 2ft version for sale at £11 the other year!
Sounds like not everyone rates them but it removes ‘line of eye’ errors – very good on the likes of Vito’s when getting everything to the same angle.
Cheers

OK, decided to go down the app route, got myself a free stanley level which seems to do the job nicely, the only thing i need now is a case for my new iphone 5 as i don’t want this baby getting scratched, i’ve done well so far but i just know i’m gonna drop it using it on cars.

I found a free app called ‘basic angle finder’ ….. Still haven’t worked out how to use it,
One day x!
