Merchandising licenses can be very expensive. I wanted to use the Great Ormond street Hospital Logo to raise money on behalf of Morgandie……..They wanted £2.5K just for the priveledge. That was a singular hospital, a Disney license would be mega££££ and be on limited products/themes…………

I was wondering then how these small companies print stickers and stuff for bedroom walls etc, I suppose they are bought in from a disney retailer and sold on.

B O T W have some of disneys stuff, I recall that copyright has a time limit, maybe wrong, but dosnt it expire after a certain time? or a period after the copyright owners death?

I’ve had a bit of experience with this.

If it has the ‘tm’ mark on them, they pay a commission on each sale. It is tightly audited by the Disney Corporation.

If its from China, its probably pirated 🙄

The Disney copyrights are owned by the Disney Corporation, so is not affected by the authors death.

I used to do a lot of work for warner bros. and I still have a heap of their stuff on file, but I had to sign legal documents forbidding me using them for anything other than warner bros specified work.

That said, if it wasn’t derogatory, and it was only small numbers, I’m not sure that they would worry. If you were making a good profit though, different story.

Graeme, I’m surprised about the hospitals stance, especially in regard to Charity work. I do a lot of charity work for a number of medical organisations, and they give me anything I ask for, in terms of branding. Most actually insist that I use their brand for better promotion and brand awareness..

As long as its to aid the charity, they have never had an issue.

If Disney knew, they’d have it removed for sure.

Land Rover asked for all their corporate stuff to be removed from BOTW, all the good stuff anyway. They felt they would lose controll of the brand if anyone had free access to it.

Some companies have Brand Managers. Its their job to maintain the image of the brand. Most major organisations have one to some extent.

Power hungry people, most of them, from personal experience.
