    HI all,

got 20 red polo’s to do for a customer, he wanted cheap so that’s what i got, however, i’ve just gone to throw them into the heat press to remove the moisture -yes, i know it’s sunday!- and as per normal they steam off in about 20-30 seconds (150°c) but, when i remove them there’s a large dark rectangular patch from the platen,

i seem to recall this happening before with no lasting effects but seeing as this is for someone else and not something i was toying with, i’d rather be safe than sorry,

also, just noticed some red colouring on the foam pad on the platen base, would i be best to advise the customer to wash all seperately before wearing?

just curious as to what othr people do!

    cheers,
    Hugh

I would normally only give them about 10 seconds to remove excess moisture, are you putting vinyl on or using transfer paper?

i was told to press it til all the steam has gone, 10-15 secs @180-200°c but anywhere to 30 secs on 150°c. depending on garment and moisture content.

    gonna press vinyl on.

i’ve been out to do a job this afternoon (customer will have a surprise in the morning, he was expecting me wed’s!) and left the shirts, the darkened area’s have gone back to normal now, i’ve noticed this on other red items and navy blue too,

    still, seems ok now!

    cheers,
    Hugh

This is the first time I have heard of heating the shirts first. Is this really necessary???? Should this be done with every shirt!

if you think they are damp. i normally try the first one to see

apparently if its steaming then the glue don’t stick as well.

i do it because i was advised to, think the magic touch videos mentioned it.

the reflective definitely has problems sticking if damp, the steam affects the glue,

I always prepres as well but only for about 10 seconds at most. Several instruction sheets I’ve seen from different manufacturers have advised the same. First time I pressed a red shirt I had the same shock.

I started pre-pressing t-shirts to get rid of the creases, especially on cheaper t-shirts, this habit stayed with me and also was found out about moisture after a the first few months of pressing. The colour change is normal but goes back to normal when cooled down.
