  • Disclaimers for signage installation, what do you do?

    Hi,

What disclaimers do you give to customers for installation of signage (mainly large external signage)? We give disclaimers to the customer that states they are responsible for maintaining the signage especially after being fitted for years and also after adverse weather etc. I need to have these updated as they are quite a few years old (they were drawn up by a solicitor). I’ve spoken to a lot of sign companies who don’t have disclaimers… just wondering what others do as we were advised we should have them? We also use a contractor to fit the larger signs that require a lift and a few people to fit on occasions, but he doesn’t provide or have a disclaimer (we do have copies of his insurance docs, his professional certificates etc.)

We also mention that obtaining planning permission is the responsibility of the customer but that we are happy to provide the information they require.

Just wondering what everyone else does? A customer enquiry yesterday has prompted me to update ours as they kept saying how they wanted a very large sign tray that would have to be made up of multiple trays due to size and would be fitted to cladding but that the winds were so bad where they were that it has taken the roof off the building before!!! Think I will suggest sticking up a small banner

    Thanks 🙂

Personally if the trays are that large and could pose real danger a disclaimer is the least of your worries. Something of that nature would need a full structural survey carried out before installation- could you imagine the court case otherwise [emoji50][emoji50]

Totally agree. We are giving this one a wide birth, but it just got me thinking about other signs in general and ironically and sadly on the news this morning I saw that a sign fell yesterday and seriously injured someone. Obviously we can never guarantee that the freak weather we have that pull down trees and rip building apart wont effect the signage that we all put up, however, I just want to let the customer know formally that they also need to maintain the sign and carry out regular checks to make sure it is safe etc. :smiles:
