  • Disappearing Text in Corel X5, help please?

Posted by Nick Williamson on 13 December 2012 at 16:31

Am I being more stupid than normal???
On Corelx5 have saved white text on a black background (enhanced view) all good when I re-open file on large view text their but when you zoom in only the black rectangle shows the little adjustment squares show but no text.
If you select the text and change the colour no show but text shows if you move it then disappears again

any ideas oh can get it to show on draft view but nothing else

    cheers

Funnily enough I have had the same thing today with hernandez font which I bought a couple of weeks ago…. I put it down to the font even though it has been used before.

We are on x5 with xp but strangely our pc automatically updated overnight.

Be very interested to find the cause and more importantly the cure

    Cheers

    Cause:
microsoft security update KB2753842 (security update for OpenType Compact Font Format)

    Cure:
Go to control panel / add & remove programs / click on "show updates" / scroll down to windows updates, look for KB275384 and remove it

When windows update shows the same update again (it will do so), don’t install it

By the way, do all of the above at your own risk. I’ve done it and it works fine for me on all of my pcs, but I won’t be held responsible if anything happens to anybody else’s! 😀

For me it’s a simple choice, a slightly less secure computer whilst a new patch is being made or being able to carry on working? 😮 😮

    Cheers

I’m not ceertain if this is related or not but I sometimes have fonts (cannot recall which) that when ou add a contour around them, certain letters just will not contour, no matter what you do to them (break, group, weld, whatever). On one or two ocasions I’ve discovered the letter wasn’t completed -ie. the fill was there but the outline didn’t complete. otherwise I’m clueless and sometimes have to freehand draw a letter and pop it in there!

    Hi Gary,
Same here.. it does my head in that despite turning off every automatic update that I cann find, XP still does this.

I’m not sure last nights update has affected anything yet though.

Happened here as well and if it wasn’t for sign forums and sign folks on FB talking about it I would be up sh!t creek without a paddle.
    😕
Would have had to just paint everything like back in the day.
    Love….Jill

We are not alone, I’m hoping a response from Microsoft will be here http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/wind … e98?page=1
If you read through Claude from Corel has offered a software fix but only relevant to developers, the rest of us have to diasable sucurity patches – so much for updates that we now cannot implement. Somebody at Microsoft wants their ar*e kicked first for letting it happen and twice as hard for still not fixing after all this time with no sign of it in the future.

Really annoying that you register this and sign that and then when there is a problem their end they can’t use that freaking email address they are so desparate to get to let you know there is an issue and thereby save a bit of time for their customers. That issue cost me about 2 or 3 hours today before I discovered the solution here.
