Digital Wallpaper recommended drying time?
Posted by Robert Lambie on 25 December 2012 at 14:30Digital Wallpaper recommended drying time?
Thought I would ask as this isn’t something we do/offer but i have bought some in to use "in-house" an an office.
Can anyone tell me the "recommended" drying time for solvent printed self adhesive wall paper? Also, I have had a few rolls delivered but i see they are only about 30inch wide
which i imagine is bog standard for wallpaper. but is there any wider elf adhesive stuff available?
I am not wanting the paste type paper, too much like wet applying vinyl for me. 😉 :lol1:i could print and matt laminate digital vinyl but wanted to see/feel the difference for myself.
thanks for any advice on this.

Digimuira do wider but it is not self pasted….. Andy Boyle uses it a lot so would be better placed to offer advice.

What’s Elf adhesive?? Is it something like Pixie dust??
Is this the re-positionable stuff like Phototex Robert?? Think there are a few different brands of that type about most of which are available wider than 30"

How about metamark’s WallTex it is self adhesive and reposition able.

They do various widths and I find their tech advise good regarding print settings/drying time

quote Robert Lambie:I am not wanting the paste type paper, too much like wet applying vinyl for me. 😉 :lol1:
with digimura you apply it to the wall only not your paper and its meant to be dead easy to apply and it comes in 1300 wide rolls 😀

That’s right Nik…..with Digimura you apply paste to the wall with a roller (edges with a brush) before applying the wallpaper to the wall….you need to fit like a decorator not a vinyl fitter

Thanks for the replies John & Nik…
This is "Neschens" self adhesive repositionable digital wallpaper.
I have tried some from the Murispec paper range. they have a great range and do both Paste and Self adhesive. but I just cant warm to the paste type though…
However, Murispec also did a self adhesive repositionable version. I loved it and found it the best of all i had tried. BUT, Musispec pulled it from their range due to adhesive failures over time.ive been getting and testing various wallpaper for about 6 months now, when i have a minute to play around with them.
one pretty neat one i tried "i think" was Neschen and was WET apply was shown to me by HP on their latex tour. you simply submerged the paper in water for 30 seconds and then lifted it out and applied it. the "water dip" activated a dry adhesive on the rear of the paper making it evenly and 100% covered with paste. loved the idea of it but "not for me" when it comes to applying. i just cant be doing with faffing about trying to expel water and getting corners and seams to tack. but did love the principle of it.
I had some other Neschen "self adhesive" samples in stock which were also pretty good, other than a bit thicker than ide have preferred. so i went with it just before the suppliers closed for the holidays. unfortunately it was much narrower than ide have liked. but i will run with it for now as its only for in our offices anyway.
I am back at work tomorrow and want to get things finished for Friday.
this means printing and installing. the coverage is 100% and pretty heavy due to dark colours. this is why i was wondering if the solvent had a "recommended" drying time before installing.NickE,
thanks for the heads-up on the Metamark stuff mate, i wasnt aware they did their own range and at various widths. ill have to get some samples of them and see how they are.I might give Andrew a buzz John as i know he uses a Mimaki and the murispec range, so will have a good idea on this sorta thing as i know he does allot of it.
thanks everyone for the replies so far…

just as a bit of feedback.
due to not having any real time to allow for drying, We printed the wallpaper and gave it about 4 hrs to dry. it was bone dry to touch and you couldnt smell solvent on the paper.it applied very easily and stuck down a treat.
the only noticeable issue of the whole thing was when i was removing the paper from its backing paper it was difficult.
I flipped it over and removed the start, then held it firm against the wall while one of our lads pulled down on the carrying paper to remove it. he had to pull firm at that!My guess is this is a side effect of not allowing the paper a proper 24hrs to dry out.
i only say that because we had a banner MESH in once and that too was very difficult to remove the carrying liner once printed. BUT if we allowed a good 24-48 hrs to dry out. the liner came away effortlessly. so im guessing this might be the case with my adhesive backed wallpaper..

I know this is an old thread however rather than setup a new thread I thought bump this one.
I have been asked to quote on a wallpaper job and am not too clued up on where to start.
With generic off the shelf wallpaper im fine with the whole wet adhesive idea however with digitally printed wallpaper is there chance of it blemishing? Has anyone applied this without lamination?
Furthermore ive heard of Neschen a few times, is this a brand I would be safe to go with?
O btw I have a Mimaki JV33.
Any advice would be great, I would prefer something reasonably priced i.e. decent quality for the price not cheap and nasty.
Thanks guys
