  • Different IP address coming up on my computer.

Posted by Harry Cleary on 11 September 2008 at 10:06

Not sure if this will make sense but here goes. When the small dialogue box pops up on my screen to say Thunderbird is checking for emails it sometimes shows a different IP address than mine…..is this something to worry about……….could another computer be accessing my mail?. If so what can I do?

P.S.And there is a man in black watching me every time I go out and I hear voices all the time!! Paranoid? Me? 😀 😀

    Hey again Harry !

    Hope you’re well bud.

I’m not sure what the box is as i don’t use thunderbird, but i’d need some more info to give you a specific answer.

If you manually assign your IP then it should be the same, however if you’re on auto then you’re IP can be assigned from a ‘pool’ via dynamic DHCP.

If you’re worried about anything, feel free to email me with the address if you want to and i can be more specific.

However, its probably just dynamic addressing bud, sometimes parts of the address will change as its from the DHCP ‘ pool ‘

    😀

Hi Carl, thanks a million for that, that probably explains it. I didnt react quick enough to get the number and I havent seen it happening in a few days now. The box just pops up in the corner when Thunderbird checks for mails. I’ll keep an eye on it. Thanks again!

    quote Gavin MacMillan:

I think that is an unhelpful post.

If you mean me, I bet I could do better than that even!

I’m sure, but would it further anyones cause or just look childish? Facts and figures should be all that is required to prove your point not needless bitching – leave that to the people who can’t win their argument.

Gavin I don’t want to upset anyone but as I alluded to paranoia in my original post and I had contributed to the other topic on Subli N, I think Peter was just being witty…..successfully too. 😀
