Dewalt cordless drill battery. Help please
Posted by Pane Talev on 12 January 2017 at 10:36Hello All,
I have 2 Dewalt cordless drills.
The one on the left is circa 2009 and still works ok – battery holds ok. Even when I don’t use for weeks, battery is still full.
The one on the right is circa 2006, still works but battery gets flat quickly. If i don’t use is after charging – get flat in few days.
What will you suggest?
Can I buy new generation batteries for the one on the right? Will this work?
It is nice to have the two operational. One with drill bit – The other with screwdriver. Saves me the hassle to change on every screw 😉
Thanks in advance.Pane Talev replied 8 years, 11 months ago 7 Members · 9 Replies -

I had ten of the old types re-celled by a company called County Batteries, fraction of the cost of replacing, old type do not fit new model

The battery on the left (the newest) – fits the drill on the right. Although different size and shape, clips on the fitting and works. I’m not sure is this is recommended I.E. will this damage the drill?

Hi Pane
If the connections fit and the voltage is the same the drill will be fine. -
Thanks All,
With the deals at the moment I will go for a new combo drill with 2 new batteries.
Cheers!

We use the Spanish version of this site! I have managed to find batteries for all our old drills (which i refuse to throw away) and they are all working well. I think they are based in Hong Kong, so they do take a long time to arrive (about a month to us) We have resurrected two old bosch sds drills, and two dewalts. We think on a par (locally at least) with someone opening the old cases and putting new cells in price wise. Bought the first ones about a year ago, and they have stood up to a good season of use, and we haven’t noticed a drop in performance, we then bought loads to fit all other old drills, but they have only had about 4 months use, but so far so good! All of them charge well with the original chargers.
Cheers

Thanks in advance. If you look on google, there is a convertor which allows you to use the "new" generation battery.

I use a model battery charger to condition my batteries that die without use..
All you have to do is cycle the batteries with the charger. I do 5 charge/discharge cycles on the batteries, which brings them back to life.
Model chargers will charge lithium ion, lithium polymer, nicad, nimh and lead acid batteries.. the beauty of using a model charger to condition your batteries is they are microprocessor controlled and you can see exactly how many milliamps are going into the battery.. you can also use them on many other batteries around the house.
A good site to buy a model charger is hobbyking.co.uk for £27 that will charge up to 10ah which would charge all cordless tool batteries -
Thanks for your input gents.
I have purchased a new kit this time.
