    Hi,

Hope somebody can help or point me in the right direction!!

Been asked to design a cocktail menu, and the customer would like some ‘clipart’ on it. Problem i have is it needs to be upmarket wine bar style if that makes sense? contempory looking but with clipart. After this ramble my Q is does anyone know where i can get clipart from which isnt so cartoony/loud?
Or if not has anyone done any past design for wine bar type places and offer some tips? I was thinking perhaps just line drawings? Any colour seems to make it look cheap. Ive got a blank canvas so any advice however basic is really appreciated!

    thanks in advance.

When i`m looking for some original and inspriing ideas, i search the newsgroups – alt.binaries.wallpapers specifically.

Theres a massive array of abstract and hi rez digital images in that group with some inspiring ideas.

You can access newsgroups through either a search engine (I think google has a full list of newsgroups now) or you can get them through your ISP & email program. If you go onto your ISPs website, they usually have full tutorials for setting up newsgroups.

On the clipart front, you can buy CDs with industry specific clipart. There is a great one that NeliJane bought at SignUK, I don’t think it was too expensive. Also, you could get some good quality photographs of the stuff you want and vectorise it. If you have problems with the vectorising, Andrew @ VectorWise will do a fantastic job for not a lot of pennies, well worth a look as well 😀

Totally off subject, but where the devil is NeliJane these days? I miss her and I really want to know how she’s getting on with her mini one 😕 As I say, off subject, but just sprang to mind again 🙄

    Cheers, Dewi

instead of spending time to searching of some clip-art
    I usually do my own.

If you are not good in drawing, simple is to take your digital camera
    -take couple shots
    -take an tracing paper
-than trace image with black marker over tracing paper
-after that, scan this drawing and trace them in your sign program
(I use corel draw trace by outline)
-On the end you get you own clip-art what’s more it is yours and you didn’t use any copirighted image. Specialy if you create an Logo and etc.

When I’ve had to do job’s like this I have used clipart from art explosion and similar packages, you can easily change the colours to suit the style of the menu and remove the colour if you just want line drawings, although this normally envolves some degree of editing as well.
