  • design help needed with garage forecourt signs please?

Posted by Steve Thurlow on 2 June 2004 at 09:17

    Hi Team,
I am putting together some layouts for signs on the forecourt of a garage.
The signs are 1600mm x 500mm yellow faced ally. The garage owner has already had these made & sprayed so I’m afraid i’m stuck with the yellow.

The other problem is the amount of text required on each sign, from one just saying ‘MOTs’ to the ridiculously long list of all their services, not sure about using the tyre & exhaust pictures.

I’m starting to scratch my head over this one 😕 any ideas please.

    Thanks, Steve

    Morning Rob,

They are next to each other, 4 in a row, they have rounded top corners because they fit into the space inside a ‘pipe’ frame, does that make sense? 😳
(it’s quicker for me to show you)

    🙄 thanks, Steve

    Looks good Steve

Some clipart, if not used well, can look tacky but this goes well with the trade and is what you expect to see on the forecourt.

Again from their standpoint yellow and black are the colours that are going to get them noticed.

    Hi John, hope you’re OK….
Thanks for the comments, I thought I was being lazy just putting black text on the yellow signs. But it does work OK 😕
The ‘Clip’ art is from ‘Trades & Business’ Ingrams CD, I invested in this CD about 2 years ago, you have the choice of high res photos or vinyl cut ready versions.
I have a question about using ‘pictures’, should I charge extra per image if the client wants to use them? This CD cost me approx 100 quid so I think I’m justified in charging 15 – 20 quid each? 😕 hmmmm

    Well you’ve said it Steve

You’ve invested so now its time to recoup

Don’t make an issue of it…… just mention the cost briefly and move on

………….OR show him two prints one with and one without clipart and of course the two different prices

    Steve,
they look fine to me, just yer average run-of-the-mill garage signs.
What seems to be lacking to me is balance on the list of services ones.
Could you somehow add a reverse-printed panel to break it up?
    (especially on the MOT)
Or maybe try doing it in all-caps, less legible but more “even” looking.
    You got me stumped buddy!
I actually like the yellow tho. Cheery for in a greasy garage!
    Love…Jill

i always assumed it was white out of blue with
    a certain amout of air?
