  • Damage on a wrap from my magnets

    Hi!
The weirdest thing happened to me the other day. A customer came back with a week old wrap and showed me some very strange marks on the whole car. From what I could see it seemed that the magnets made an impression on the vinyl (3m 180 ccv).
I tried to make them disappear by using alcohol, but nothing happened, and when I looked at it from up close I could see as if a pattern had been made were the magnets were placed before the vinyl was applied.
Has anyone had this happen to them?
I’ll try to take some pictures and upload them here.

Yes I’ve seen that, apparently it can leave marks on some paints too. I’m sure there is a scientific explanation.

Some weeks back we had a panic with magnets……they were leaving yellow marks on the vinyl even when they were only positioned for a short time……thankfully it was on our own van that we use for training and we had plenty of opportunity to do some tests…..firstly we fitted the magnets and timed how long they were in position before marking the vinyl and tried lots of cleaning fluid to try and remove the yellow marks……….it was quite by chance that Andrew realized that while not in use the magnets were stuck to the store cupboard………..and yes its bright yellow.

All we could think was that the magnets are strong enough to draw out some of the iron in the paint……..sorry I’m no specialist in these things but a word of caution to ensure that they are stored away from painted surfaces.

    Hope that helps a little
