I’ve quoted on a job for a customer that could be quite regular work.

They’ve sent over the artwork, and there’s some small text about 10mm high, but it’s a pain to weed out.

I’ve tried most of the settings on the plotter, but with the possibility of 2500 a month to produce, I can’t really compromise with speed.

Reading the manual it sounds like I need a CB15UB blade, but at nearly £50 for one from Graphtec, I’ve looked at the usual suppliers but can’t seem to find anything other than the standard blades.

Any suggestions welcome as the alternative blades for detailed work.

    Cheers
    David

Are you sticking it onto a substrate David?

If so it’s usually easier to put a weed-box around the small bit of text, then weed out all the centres of ‘o’s, ‘d’s etc. before sticking it onto the substrate with app. tape over the whole lotl. You’ll find it’s then much easier to weed, because the letter is stuck down. I’ve regularly done 10-12mm lettering like this, but normally stick to 20mm as a minimum.
    Hope that helps

No we’re supply only as it’s a trade job. They’re going on windows of new cars.

Might try a new blade tomorrow morning 😀

I was in Weta Workshops (Lord of the rings) a few years ago and they were cutting incredibly intricate vinyl shapes on a laser engraver, and the machine was set up to burn off all the negative areas so no weeding was involved at all AND it left the silicone release paper intact.

Apart from the cutter being set up well. The file may need altering to make it easier

other things that will help polish the bed and use as many pinch rollers as possible
tried most blades and keep returning to the 09 type even for fine stuff also some makes of vinyl weed fine stuff better than others

Have you tried the tangential mode David, small text generally weeds better for me if I use it. Sometimes also notch the force up one extra as well.
Really all you can do is select a font that is going to weed ok & then play about with a few settings. I’ve never bought a special blade for detail work but tend to use the smart knives from Harry anyway.

Give Harry a ring at Edward Mathias. Have plenty of Tea at hand as he can chat for England. You wont find anyone more knowledgeable on blades

Agreed +1 for Harry, only use his blades now in all of our machines. What vinyl are you using as this will make a huge difference?
