We have always used self-healing cutting mats – they are great and last for ages before you start to get cuts showing, then you can turn them over and use the other side. Last time ours got knackered I searched for a better deal online, even tried America. That seems to be where they all come from, and of course they are much cheaper there. Trouble is, over here (rip-off Britain) we have to pay in pounds what they pay in dollars.

Best deal I found was – surprisingly – Viking Direct. The biggest they do is 900 x 600 but much better price.

    Cheers,
    Richard

I use Polypropylene from Robert Horne. £30 for an 8×4 and lasts years too. not much cheaper than that in my opinion 😉 😛

    Exactly the same as Warren.

Been using polypropylene sheet 3mm white and it lasts years and years and years.

similar type price from stockline plastics.

Warren, don’t you find that your blade can get stuck in an old cut line and wander off the line you are cutting?

I’ve always used a glass top which pretty much lasts for ever. The only downside is that it blunts blades quicker than some other substrates but as the blades are not expensive and I keep a scalpel just for work on the bench I can live with it.

no it doesn’t martin and I use a big stanley knife to cut with. It takes years before the cuts get bad enough before the knife might wander but then you flip it over and you got another year or so and for £30 that’s not bad, £10 a year at the most.
