I am about to start a cut with etched Glass effect vinyl obviously quite expensive. The cut is 4500 mm x 300mm. My issue is that if i cut this on the plotter there is a strong chance over that distance it may run off. I have bought 700mm wide to give me a bit of room but not much. Any tips on how I can reduce the chance of this happening? I’m using the graphtec fc5100-100.

It should be no problem, but I know the feeling of having to push the button and have faith 😀
Make sure you square the material by pulling it around the bed to meet at the front, pull about a metre together, clamp and size up the width, then roll out the desired length+ a bit. this will do 2 things, ensure the material is running square, and it will sort of emboss the material with the pattern of the knurled roller, it does actually help on subsequent runs to keep things square.
Also tell the program to cut nearest first, if a pattern is being cut out, and slow the speed right down.
Have faith in the graphtec, 😀

Bit of a ball ache sometimes but i tend to manually run the material through to the desired length for reassurance!!!

Cheers guys, went for it on my 3000mm cuts. Run off about 3mm. No big deal. About to go for the 4000m cuts. 😮

I agree with Mat we have in the past had to do big 1220mm runs of 5 meters for Greenvale tattie lorries where if you nacked a run would be expensive! we always ran the vinyl forward as far as the cut but be sure to have plenty room at the back of the plotter as I’ve had problems wi vinyl rising and throwing the rear eye off thinking there’s none left stupid machines or is that operators!!! thats me let the mickey take commence!!

Well that’s me done the full cut. The largest run at 5m run off by 10mm. But on the bottom of a window that length I’m sure(hoping) it won’t be that obvious. :lol1: Oh and David I wouldn’t slag you off, not to your face anyway!!! 😀

Jonathan when you say it ran of by 10mm you will find it is only relative to the backing paper, the actual rectangle should measure the same width at both ends!

Stick a bit of vinyl over the eye next time 😉
