  • Cutting blade help please

Posted by Billy Lawton on 15 November 2011 at 16:28

Hi there – I’ve just cut my first job, and the blade seems to be not completing the curve cut inside letters like "a" "o" etc – it just stops short of completing the curve.

It also snags up the vinyl at this point into a very small "burr"

I can finish the cut off with a scalpel, but that seems to defeat the object and could look rubbish!

Any help for this novice appreciated please!!

    Thank you

By the way – the text is about 25mm high – so its not ultra small!

Probably the offset isn’t set correctly. Don’t know what it should be on a graphtec.

Like Steve has already said it will probably be down to the blade offset. Can be set on the machine through the menu’s, not sure how on your machine as my graphtec is a much older machine. You can also normally set it in the cutting software as well, how would depend on what software your using.

You should really set your plotter up before you do any work for customers by using the test cut function as it can save you a lot of vinyl :lol1: :lol1:

Thanks guys – you’re right – it seems like the settings are out – I’m calling Steve at Graphtec in the morning to sort it.

You’re also right about testing first! I was foolish to just charge ahead – I wasted 5 mtrs just like that – I won’t do that again.

Thanks again – ill let you know what Graphtec say.

    OK – SORTED!

I spoke to Tony at Graphtec in Wrexham – he was brilliant.

This will show you all how much of a beginner I am to plotting!

I had it set to "PEN" and not 09U blade – the speed was at 30 not 20 and quality 2 not 1.

I’m attaching an image of the problem I had using the WRONG settings – hope it may help others starting with a CE5000/60.

    Thanks for your advice guys.

    Billy

Good to hear praise given to a supplier, all too often we hear of the complaints when they get it wrong. never when they get it spot on! 😉

Graphtec do offer great machines and great after sales, been using them along with roland machines for years now.
