Cutting around a sunroof / window for tucking vinyl in
Afternoon
I’ve just had a car delivered to have the roof wrapped, not at one point was it mentioned it had a sunroof but sort of makes it easier for me.
One issue I’ll have is trimming close enough around the sunroof but leaving enough to tuck in. Normally I would use knifeless tape on the window or use the edge of a windscreen to give me enough to tuck in but on the occasion, the rubber is about a inch wide and I really don’t want to risk cutting on top of it and slipping through and cutting the rubber.
I can’t use knifeless as it won’t stick, how would you trim it? I know I’m missing something but it’s late, I’m ready to go home and I can’t think straight.

masking tape on the rubber. lay vinyl over and cut making sure you dont go through the masking

I did think about doing that but the masking tape is so thin it wouldn’t take much to go through it especially as it’s a soft rubber.
I agree with the idea but need something a bit thicker I think to be on the safe side.

Nice idea. Wont it leave a shiney finish on the rubber tho?

Thats what I’m thinking, might try it on some rubber in the future to see what happens.
Gonna go down the masking tape route and double up.

Doubling up is always a good idea. Sez the man with 3 kids :rollseyes:

Of course. Clean it off with iso.

What about a few strips of scrap vinyl on the rubber then knifeless stuck to it? You might need to mask the visible vinyl though to stop the new material sticking to it.

Completed the job.
Two layers of masking tape did the trick perfectly. I think I could have got away with one but its better to be safe than sorry.
